HARDWARE INFORMATION

1. What is the Linksys E3200 High Performance Dual-Band N Router?

The Linksys E3200 High Performance Dual-Band N Router is a Linksys Wireless-N router that allows you to access the Internet via a wireless connection or through one of its four (4) ports.  The router’s USB port connects to a USB storage device, so you can add storage space to your network using a USB hard drive or access your portable files using a USB flash disk.  For more wireless bandwidth, the router can create two (2) simultaneous yet separate Wireless-N networks, one using the 5 GHz radio frequency band and one using the 2.4 GHz band.

2. Why does the back of the Linksys E3200 box say "Add external storage, printers, and other devices to share across your network”?

The Linksys E3200 router comes with the latest Linksys Connect software which allows you to add external storage, printers, and other devices that you can access and share within your network through its USB port.  To know how to install your external storage device, click hereTo learn how to connect your USB printer to your router, click here.

NOTE:  The USB port or storage link of your Linksys E3200 router will be able to service your USB printer if you have updated the Linksys Connect software to the latest version (v1.4 or later).  To learn how to update your Linksys Connect software, click here.

3. What are the default IP address, Username and Password of the Linksys E3200?

The default IP Address is 192.168.1.1 and the Username and Password are both "admin".

4. How can I reset the Linksys E3200 to factory defaults?

Press and hold the Reset button of the Linksys E3200 on the bottom panel for about five (5) seconds then release.   Alternatively, you can use the web-based setup page.  Go to the Administration tab > Factory Defaults and click the Restore Factory Defaults button.  For more information about resetting, click here.

5. What is the warranty period for the Linksys E3200?

6. Can I use a USB 2.0 hard drive on the USB port?

Yes.  The Linksys E3200 USB port is FAT32, NTFS and HFS+ journaled and non-journaled capable for data storing formats.  For a list of tested USB storage devices, click here.

The Linksys E3200 USB port supplies up to 1000mA power on devices.

8. Does the Linksys E3200 support remote management?

Yes.

Yes.  The Linksys E3200 supports dual or multiple voltages in the range of 100-240 volts.

WIRELESS AND NETWORK SECURITY

1. What is the default SSID broadcast by Linksys E3200?

The default SSID of the Linksys E3200 is LinksysXXXXX.

NOTE:  The XXXXX is the last five (5) digits of the router’s serial number, which is found on the bottom of the router.  You have to upgrade your firmware to have LinksysXXXXX as your default SSID.

 

2. What are the supported security modes of Linksys E3200?

The router supports the following wireless security options:  WPA2 / WPA Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal, WPA Personal, WPA2 / WPA Enterprise Mixed Mode, WPA2 Enterprise, WPA Enterprise, WEP, and RADIUS.

3. Does Linksys E3200 allow VPN tunnels using IPSec, L2TP, or PPTP protocols to pass through the router?

Yes.

4. Does the Linksys E3200 support DMZ?

Yes.

5. Does the Linksys E3200 support SPI firewall?

Yes

6. What is Web Filter?

The Web Filter prevents Java, ActiveX, Cookies, and Proxy applications in web interface.

TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Can I back up and restore settings on the Linksys E3200?

Yes.

2. How do I check the wireless settings of my router?

3. How do I turn the wireless function of my router ON or OFF?

To turn the wireless function of the router ON or OFF, you will need to access to the web-based setup page of your router and click on the Wireless tab.  Under the Basic Wireless Setting, set the Network Mode of both your 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz to Disabled.

Alternatively, if you just want to hide the broadcast of the router’s wireless network name (SSID) to prevent other users from connecting, you can do so by disabling the SSID broadcast. For instructions on how to do this, click here.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE

1. How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys E3200?

On the web-based setup page, go to Administration tab > Firmware Upgrade.  Select the file to upgrade by using the Browse... or Choose File... button and then click Start to Upgrade.  Do not reset or powercycle the router until the upgrade is complete.  For detailed instructions on how to upgrade the firmware of the Linksys E3200, click here.

IMPORTANT:  If your router has a storage link and your storage device is connected to it, make sure to remove the storage device before you proceed in upgrading the router’s firmware as this may result to data loss.  Make sure also that you have created a back up configuration before removing the storage device.  For instructions on how to create a backup, click here.

The router supports six (6) Internet connection types:  Automatic Configuration - DHCP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP, Telstra Cable, and L2TP.

3. How many static routes can I set up between the router and another network?

You can have up to 20 static routes.

4. Does the Linksys E3200 support AP Isolation?

No.

5. Does the Linksys E3200 have a built-in FTP server?

Yes.  You will be able to create an FTP server that can be accessed from your local network or from the Internet.

6. Can I share the disk attached to my Linksys E3200?

Yes.

7. Does the Linksys E3200 support wireless QoS and Internet Access Priority QoS?

Yes.

8. Does the Linksys E3200 support transmitting log information to a log server?

No.

9. What browsers are supported by the Linksys E3200?

It supports Internet Explorer 7, Safari 4, or Firefox 3 or higher for optimal browser-based configuration.

10. What are the Radio Band, Standard and Wide channels?

The Radio Band gives you two (2) options: Auto and Standard - 20MHz channel.  Standard channel is what all B/G/N devices will use.  If you select the Wide channel for the radio band setting, then the Wireless-N can use two (2) channels: a primary one (Auto) and a secondary one (Standard Channel).

11. What is Port Forwarding?

The Port Forwarding feature allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, FTP servers, email servers, or other specialized Internet applications.

12. Can I select specific time zones and automatically adjust clock?

Yes.

13. Which dynamic route protocol is supported on the Linksys E3200?

It's compatible with RIP / RIPv2 dynamic route protocol.

14. What is DMZ and what is it used for?

The DMZ feature allows a local host to be exposed to the Internet to be used for a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one computer.  The Port Range Forwarding is more secure because it only opens the ports you specified, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one (1) computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.

15. What is UPnP?

The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) allows Windows to automatically configure the router for various Internet applications, such as gaming and videoconferencing.

16. Can I configure Guest Access and Parental Controls features using the web-based setup page?
