Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work as advertised I recently upgraded my internet to 1Gbps service and was only getting about 300Mbps performance out of my Linksys EA9500. I called Linksys and was told the EA9500 was 5 tears old and I should upgrade to the MR8300. I ordered the MR8300 and the performance was no better and would lose connection to the internet after about a day. Called tech support at Linksys and the problem was not resolved. It's not a problem with the internet service; because, I can hook my laptop directly to the internet modem and it works as advertised. I am returning the MR8300 unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb PING for gaming Before switching to this router, I was using Factory Equipment from Xfinity, my ping during COD games was 40-75ms consistently. Now i would say nearly 90-100% of the time I have the best latency in the match lobby, which is usually right at 12ms! Insane performance Jump! I do have device prioritization enabled for my gaming PC, which I think is what helped me achieve this perfect gaming latency. I also have the recommended port forwarding enabled for all COD games on PC.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needed expert help to install I had to employ a technician to install the new router and pair it with my existing node. The installation booklet nor the online assistance were of no help to me. Once the technician finished his work (several hours), all is well and working fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Linksys router Works great, but I think I should have gotten one that could handle more traffic. This one does great but I have between 23 and 27 active devices zt all times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beats Industry Expectation on Upload Speed Great product! Much better performance than the older model. Maybe it will perform better than 21months against today's technology. Night and day difference so far on upload speed. Last router was tweaked to max and couldn't pull enough MB/s to enhance communication abilities! Very pleased and hope I won't have to go through this again in less than two years.

I read somewhere that you can create a guest wifi with limited access. Also heard you can create a separate wifi for 2.5ghz frequencies. How many separate wifi networks can be created, and what variables can you have in them??

Asked by: SRFireside
You can create separate guest access, not sure how many you can create but it is more than one. Each one can have a different name and different password. You can also set the number of devices that each can have operating at the same time (on each separate guest network). They cannot see or access other computers, external storage, or connected devices. You can also turn guest access on and off without affecting regular router operations. There are two frequency choices both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz and both are separate from each other, meaning you can have some devices on the 2.5Ghz and some others on the 5Ghz. You can set different passwords for each of the frequencies or they can be the same.

How can I stop 5G from emitting and only have the 2.4 up and running in my MR8300 (v1)? As it happens 5G gives me a headache! Is there a button? Can I remove some of the antennas?

Asked by: Bolt
Hi, Bolt. Please know that the external antennas of the MR8300 are non-detachable, but you have the option to disable the 5Ghz band on your Mesh Wi-Fi system. However, doing this will defeat the purpose of having a mesh network. Also, the Linksys app does not support this configuration and is only applicable to the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi web interface.

Asked by: James C
There are NO external ports connections to add a hi-gain antenna. The four antennas are fixed and not removable. SORRY!

If I have this router and purchase the Velop nodes, do I still need to connect one of those nodes to this router or am I able to place all those nodes in other sections of the house?

Asked by: Sayson
Hi, Sayson. The Linksys MR8300 is capable to act as a parent node to your Velop system, so you can just add the Velop as child nodes and place them in other areas of your house

Can I use 2 or 3 MR8300's together to create a mesh? if yes how?

Asked by: strawberry1
Hi. Yes, you can use more than one MR8300 to your Network. Just set-up the first one as the parent node and the other device/s as the child node/s. To add another Linksys mesh router to your network, you can refer to this link instead: https://www.linksys.com/support-article?articleNum=316724.

*Maximum Performance derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual performance may vary, including lower wireless network capacity, data throughput rate, speed, range and coverage. Performance depends upon many factors, conditions and variables, including building materials and construction, volume of network traffic, mix of wireless products used, interference and other adverse conditions. In order to achieve the best performance, this product must be used with compatible AC2200 wireless devices. The standard transmission rates—867 Mbps (for each 5 GHz radio), 400 Mbps (for 2.4 GHz)—are the physical data rates. Actual data throughput will be lower and may depend on the mix of wireless products used and external factors. Specifications are subject to change without notice. An active, customer-purchased Internet Service Provider broadband account is required for connection of this product and other connected devices to the Internet.
