Rated 2 out of 5 by from Do not recommend, horrible reliability Bought this system to repalce an aging (but still a very good) Netgeat Nighthawk router and the first 7 or months the system was flawless, fast speed full coverage in a 4000 square foot house, But after that honeymoon the performance has turned horrible. THe amount of times I hear "The internet is down" has increased 10 fold from the previose nighthawk. I have had our ISP out multiple times and they assure me I am getting full speed and performance from the cable modem whihc has been proved by bypassing the router completely. THe issues are usually a drop in wifi connection but DNS and DHCP issues happen often especially when turning a pc on for the first time. Support is very friendly even with my less than friendly tone but honestly they are just randomly having me do things, fist call they had me switch nodes twice during call to repair a complete internet failure. Even thought these units are supposed to be the same, it seems some will not work correctly as a router and have to be setup as nodes. I have both nodes setup as wired backchannel yet sometimes they show a yellow light (low signal strength which should not even be possible (I suspect this is also a dhcp issue. Speaking of DHCP, the built in dhcp server assigns addresses in you available range randomly, really makes your client list an absolute mess. Second troubleshooting session tried setting the DNS addresses to external ones (1.0.0.1 and 1.1.1.1) but my ISPs dns works jsut fine, unsure why they want to try Cludfare's). I finally got pushed to second level and on the first cal, the agent lost internet connection in their office and had to end the call, makes me wonder if they use Linksys equipment as well. The second 2nd level call, my laptop that support person was using had a wireless drop while he was using it, he had e plug in a ethernet cable to get around the obvious issue they have with wifi on these device. I do not recommend buying these product, had they not been passed the return window I would have already returned them, as it is I can't afford to drop another 4 bills on another system so support is stuck with me until they get this figured out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t buy. Trash Don’t buy this product. It doesn’t work. The router from the internet company, that they send for free works better then this one. Don’t spend your money on this product. They shouldn’t even sell this

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Reliability of this system is as solid as Jell-O This WiFi system has been one of my biggest tech disappointments. The system is indeed easy to install and works great when first turned on, but after a couple of days it develops a longer and longer lag. It gets to the point of non-functional, where you can wait for several minutes before a page starts to load (or your device times out). If you run a speed test it says its fine, but (as others have also noted) its a huge delay from when you click start. The only thing that works is to restart the system - but it needs to be restarted again every 2-3 days!! If a family member was already on a Zoom call or in a chat their connection is fine, but obviously I can’t be restarting the router until they are finished. I’ve spent many hours with support on multiple calls, who obviously just read from a pre-written script and insist you follow that fix - one of the first things they insist that you do is to restart the router, which of course ‘fixes’ the issue and they mark it as resolved, but of course it comes back 2-3 days later! I’ve had this system since mid-2021 with the hopes that they will release firmware updates to fix it but here we are over 2 years later and it still has the same problems. I did try turning off the HomeKit support for a few months - which seemed to fix the issue, but the whole reason I got this router was for the HomeKit support and several devices on my network require it. So it really seems like the issue is with their implementation of HomeKit (hence I was hopeful of a firmware update that fixes the issue).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work Had an older Velop system that was pretty good but would have to call support every few months for rebooting. Last call the person talked me into getting the new Velop, It was the MX12600 and it was way worse. Not sure how you can get an upgrade from the manufacturer and it is worse. Luckily I called on the last day for returns and getting my money back. Support was very good but if you have to call this much then not worth it. Plus I bought a ethernet hub and new Cat8 cabling to see if that helped so I spent way more than I should have. System is supposed to support over 7,000 sf house and I am in a 2400 sf house md this caused all kinds of issues with my devices not to mention angry family members who could not stream anything. New system from another manufacturer just installed is faster and working great No dead spots. Cannot recommend this product from Linksys. it's a dud. Sorry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just awful I got this system several years ago when I moved into a big old house, thinking I would need a beefy system to get wifi throughout the house. It has been a nightmare since the beginning, and I've spent so many hours of my life on the phone with technical support trying to get it to work better to no avail. Weak and slow, intermittently doesn't work at all, nodes drop out...Couldn't get a refund or any replacement parts. Such a huge waste of money and worst of all my time

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Will not stay connected Only had this system a little less than a week. It performed amazingly the first few days. The range of the signal was very strong (thus the additionally star). However, after the first 2 days, the wifi losses signal about 20 times or more per day. It's such a huge inconvenience

Rated 1 out of 5 by from zero visibility and control I made the mistake of buying a set of 6 of these, and they are terribly unreliable. The control app is an absolute joke. There is no way to control how the mesh should connect, to see what’s clients are connected or what the traffic looks like, and software updates are no longer being done…seems like this is an orphan product.

is it necessary for me to purchase additional security software to keep my router protected from being accessed by unwanted intruders

Asked by: Plr94
It's not necessary, Plr94. Linksys routers come equipped with a built-in firewall to prevent malicious programs or hackers from entering your network. can I use the nodes with a wrt3200acm router?

Asked by: bikerman658
Hi! The WRT3200ACM cannot mesh with MX12600 since it doesn’t support mesh technology. However, you can cascade them like standard routers.

can I use the nodes with a tp link router

Asked by: billp1
Hi, billp1. The Linksys MX4200 operates exclusively within its proprietary mesh network and does not mesh with devices from other brands. However, you have the option to configure the nodes in bridge mode so the node will act as an access point to your existing network. Should you require further assistance, feel free to email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com.
