Encountering Problems Installing the Cable Modem

If you’re having problems installing the Linksys BEFCMU10 USB drivers, you need to re-install the drivers.

Uninstalling the Previous Drivers

Windows Vista / Windows 7

Step 1:
Right-click My Computer and click Properties.

Step 2:
Click Device Manager.

Step 3:
Click Network adapters then right-click Linksys USB Cable Modem then click Uninstall.  After uninstalling the drivers, reinstall the drivers.  For instructions, click here.

 Windows XP/2000

Step 1:
Right-click My Computer and click Properties.

Step 2:
Click Hardware then Device Manager.

Step 3:
Click Network adapters then right-click Linksys USB Cable Modem then click Uninstall.  After uninstalling the drivers, reinstall the drivers.  For instructions, follow the steps below.

Windows 98/ME

Step 1:
Right-click My Computer and click Properties.

Step 2:
Click Device Manager.

Step 3:
Click Network adapters and then select Linksys USB Cable Modem then click Remove.  After uninstalling the drivers, reinstall the drivers.  For instructions, follow the steps below.

Reinstalling the Drivers

NOTE:  This step is only applicable if you are using a USB connection.  If you are using an Ethernet connection, there’s no need to install the driver.

Before reinstalling the driver, unplug your Linksys USB Cable Modem.

For Windows Vista, you have to download the driver at Linksys support web-page.  To download the driver, click here.  For instructions on how to download the updated driver for BEFCMU10 and install it, click here.

Windows XP

Step 1:
Power ON the computer.

Step 2:
When the Found New Hardware Wizard window appears, click Install the software automatically (Recommended) then Next.

Step 3:
Click Finish to complete the installation of the USB Cable Modem.

Windows 2000

Step 1:
Power ON the computer.

Step 2:
When the Found New Hardware Wizard window appears, click Next.

Step 3:
Click Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) then Next.

Step 4:
Click CD-ROM drives then Next.

Step 5:
After the wizard located the driver file, click Next.

NOTE:  If you are using Windows 2000, you may see a Windows Digital Signature warning.  As the adapter has been tested and found to work with Windows, click Yes to continue.

Step 6:
Click Finish to complete the installation of the device driver.

Windows 98/ME

Step 1:
Power ON the computer.

Step 2:
When the Add New Hardware Wizard window appears, click Next

Step 3:
Click Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended) then Next.

Step 4:
Click Specify a location then Browse.

Step 5:
Browse to the location where the driver files were extracted and click the folder.  When the folder is selected, click OK.

Step 6:
Click The updated driver (Recommended) then click Next.

Step 7:
Click Next to install the device driver.

Step 8:
Click Finish to complete the installation of the device driver.
