The Linksys RE4100W N600 Dual-Band Wireless Range Extender is a simultaneously dual-band wireless range extender.  It allows you to repeat the wireless signal of any access point or router in order to provide Internet connectivity to hard-to-reach areas through a wireless connection.
 
The Linksys RE4100W also includes an audio out port to connect a set of powered speakers.  It can be a music hub which provides playback via DLNA or AirPlay® from Android™ or Apple® mobile devices.  To know more, visit the

Before setting up the Linksys RE4100W, you will need the following:
  • An active Internet connection via a wireless router (knowing its wireless network name (SSID), wireless channel, wireless security mode (WPA / WPA2 Personal or WEP) and wireless network password)
  • A computer with a Windows® 8, Windows® 7, Windows Vista® SP1, Windows XP® SP3 or OS X® operating system or a mobile device running Android™ or iOS
  • RJ45 Ethernet networking cable (Optional - for wired setup)
  • Internet browser 
2. How do I set up the Linksys RE4100W?

3. What default IP Address, username, and password may be used to log in to the Linksys RE4100W? 

The default IP Address of the Linksys RE4100W is 192.168.1.1 and the username and password is admin.
 
NOTE:  When the Linksys RE4100W is connected to your existing network, your wireless router will automatically assign a different IP Address and treat it as a DHCP client.

You can find the wireless MAC Address of your range extender in its web-based setup page.  Go to Status > WLAN Statistics > Extender MAC address.  For detailed instructions, click here.

NOTE:  The MAC Address printed at the back of the extender is for the Ethernet port not the wireless radio.


8. How do I configure my extender's IP Address?​

Configuring your extender's IP Address allows you to assign a static IP Address on your device.  Every time you connect and reconnect to the wireless network, the extender will use the same IP Address.

Follow the steps below to change your IP Address:

Step 1:  
Access the range extender’s web-based setup page.  For instructions, click here.  

Step 2:
Under the Wireless section, look for Extender IP Address 

Step 3
Select Static IP on the drop-down menu.  

Step 4
Enter your new Internet IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.

Step 5:
Click Save.

The Linksys RE4100W boasts its wireless music playback feature.  The audio port lets you connect any 3.5 mm earphone and powered speaker to it.  The Linksys RE4100W Range Extender allows you to stream music on your network and play it on the speakers through the audio port.
 

2. What media players are supported by the Linksys RE4100W?
 
The following is a list of supported media players by the Linksys RE4100W:
  • Windows users can stream music with Windows Media Player 12, foobar2000, XBMC and WinDVD
  • Mac® users can stream music with proprietary software or the SofaPlay, XBMC, SongBook and OPlayer
  • Android™ users can stream music with mediahouse, upnplay, skifta, ArkMC, bubbleUPnP, pixel media controller, 2Player 2.0 and Mediamonkey

TROUBLESHOOTING
 

1. What should I do when I cannot get the Linksys RE4100W connected to the router or access point?
 
Here are some things you can do check the position of your router and extender:
  • For first-time setup, you may need to place the extender closer to the router.  After you’ve set up your extender, you can unplug it and move it to the final location.
  • To reduce signal obstructions, try alternate locations for the router and extender.
  • Avoid placing the router and extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces such as glass or mirrors, and other electronics that may cause signal interference.
  • If you’re using WPS to connect, wait until the WPS indicator stops blinking before trying to make the connection again.
2. What should I do when I cannot access the Linksys RE4100W?
 
If you cannot access the Linksys RE4100W, try the following troubleshooting methods:
  • Powercycle the range extender.
  • Move the range extender closer to your router.
  • Check your range extender’s IP Address on your router’s DHCP table and try to ping it.
  • Connect your computer to the extender’s LAN port and attempt to access it via the default IP Address and check the wireless settings.
  • Reset extender and go through setup again.
3. What should I do when I experience intermittent connection issues when connected to the Linksys RE4100W?
