Linksys wireless USB adapter does not connect with other devices in the network

If your Linksys wireless USB adapter is not communicating with the other computers and wireless devices in your network or cannot access the shared files, it may be due to the following:

Other computers or wireless devices may not be powered ON

Check if the devices you are trying to connect with are powered ON.

The Linksys wireless adapter may not be connected to the same wireless network

If another network within your area has the same wireless network name, you may have problems connecting to your own network.  To resolve this issue, you need to personalize your router’s wireless network name so you can identify your network and connect to it easily.

QUICK TIP:  If you are using a Linksys Wireless-G router, your router’s default wireless network name (SSID) is Linksys which is a common wireless network name and should be changed to avoid conflicts.

Your computer may be connected to the Guest network

Some of the Linksys wireless routers have a Guest access feature which you can manage using the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account or the router’s web-based setup page.  Using this feature, you can create a separate wireless network for your guests.

The Guest network SSID is the same as the 2.4 GHz Wireless Network Name (SSID) however, followed by a -guest suffix.  It is a totally different network with a different password from the network which means devices connected to the guest network will not be able to share files and printers connected to the main network.

You need to connect your Linksys wireless adapter to the main network in order for your adapter to communicate with other devices and access shared files or folders within your network.  To learn how to connect your computer to the wireless network, click here.
