The Linksys EA9200 AC3200 Tri-Band Smart Wi-Fi Wireless Router is a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router with Tri-band technology which adds an additional high-speed 5 GHz radio to combine speeds of up to 3.2 Gbps and doubles the performance of a dual band router.  It has a Smart Connect feature that optimizes the performance of your wireless devices by balancing them across multiple Wi-Fi bands.  For more information about the product features and specifications of the Linksys EA9200, click here

2. What are the parts of the Linksys EA9200?

The Linksys EA9200 has the following parts:
  • Ports - one (1) power, two (2) USB ports, one (1) Internet port, four (4) Ethernet ports, and three (3) external detachable R-SMA dual 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dipole antennas

4. What is Smart Connect?

Smart Connect with Tri-band technology allows the router to have the capacity, flexibility and intelligence to assign a 5 GHz client to one of the two (2) wireless radios on the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band for higher performance.  The router will “steer” clients to the optimum band, effectively telling wireless clients to disconnect and reconnect to the other radio within the 5 GHz band.

NOTE:  Smart Connect is not supported on Guest network.  To know more about this technology, click

5. What is the warranty period of the Linksys EA9200?

6. What USB standards does the Linksys EA9200 support and what are their speed limits?

The Linksys EA9200 has one (1) USB 3.0 port and one (1) USB 2.0 port which are also backward-compatible with older versions.  The USB 3.0 speed limit can reach up to 5 Gbps.

7. What is the Network Map feature on my Linksys EA9200 and how can I use it?

8. Does the Linksys EA9200 support the Internet Usage feature of the Network Map Tool?

No.  The Linksys EA9200 does not support the Internet Usage display feature on the Network Map Tool of the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi.
 

9. Can I wall-mount the Linksys EA9200?

No, the Linksys EA9200 is not wall-mountable.

SETUP & INSTALLATION

1. How do I set up the Linksys EA9200?

Setting up the Linksys EA9200 is made fast and easy because of its CD-less setup.  Now you can run the setup from a web browser even if the router does not initially have an Internet connection and is on factory settings.  To learn how to set up the Linksys EA9200, click here.

NOTE:  There is also an option to manually set up the Linksys EA9200 and log in straight into the web interface.  On your setup home page, tick the I want to skip Setup and configure my router manually option and click Next.


2. Will I be able to run the setup on a hardwired computer even though my wireless adapter is disabled?

Yes, just connect the router to the computer using an Ethernet cable, open a browser, then start the setup process.

3. What are the default IP Address, Username, and Password of the Linksys EA9200?

The default IP Address for this router is 192.168.1.1 and the default Username and Password is admin.

WIRELESS CONNECTION & SECURITY


1. What is the maximum data rate for each wireless band?
  • Band 1 (2.4 GHz) - Optimal speeds up to 600 Mbps for older Wireless-N & G devices
  • Band 2 (5 GHz1) - Fastest speeds up to 1300 Mbps for newer Wireless-AC devices
  • Band 3 (5 GHz2) - Blazing speeds up to 1300 Mbps for online gaming and streaming
    devices
2. Is band steering supported on the 2.4 GHz?

No, band steering is only supported on the 5 GHz band.

3. Can I turn OFF Smart Connect?

4. Can I manage the three (3) radios with Smart Connect ON?

No.  To manage all three (3) radios separately, band steering needs to be turned OFF.  You can provide a different SSID for each radio.

QUICK TIP:  If the band steering is OFF, you will have a total of three (3) SSIDs.  When the band steering is ON, you will have two (2) SSIDs for the three (3) radio bands since the SSIDs for 5 GHz1 and 5 GHz2 will be combined.


5. Does the Guest network support band steering?

No.

6. How can I tell which radio the 5 GHz clients are connected to?

To view which clients are connected to the 5 GHz1 and 5 GHz2 networks of the 5 GHz band, you have to open the Network Map Tool on your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi then click the My Network tab.

7. How many radios does the Linksys EA9200 support? 

A total of three (3) radios are supported by the Linksys EA9200; one (1) with 2.4 GHz and two (2) with 5 GHz.

8. Can I have three (3) different SSIDs, one for each radio?

Yes, but only when Smart Connect is turned OFF.

9. Why can't I change the Network Mode, Channel and Channel width when Smart Connect is ON? 

These settings require Auto mode in order for band steering to work properly.

10. Can I select 802.11n Only for the 2.4 GHz band? 

Yes, but you must set the Security Mode to WPA2 Personal first.

11. Can I select 802.11n Only for the 5 GHz band? 

Yes, but you must set the Security Mode to WPA2 Personal first.

12. Where can I locate the wireless MAC Address of the router? 

Go to the Troubleshooting tool > Report.  All three (3) Wireless MAC Addresses will be displayed in this section under the Wireless section.

13. How many Guest networks can I set up on my Linksys EA9200?

The Linksys EA9200 allows you to have two (2) Guest networks both for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz1 only.  With these, your visitors at home can access the Internet but not the local network (i.e., shared storage devices, printer access).

NOTE:  The router supports a total of 50 guests.


14. What is the IP Address range of the Guest network for the 5 GHz1 radio band?

The IP Address range of the Guest network is 192.168.3.xxx.

ADVANCED CONFIGURATION


1. What is a media server and how does it work?

A media server allows DLNA-certified devices including digital media players, gaming consoles, and digital picture frames to access video, music, and pictures that are stored on a USB hard drive that is connected to the Linksys EA9200.

2. What are the supported USB hard drive formats?

Linksys EA9200 supports FAT, FAT32, NTFS, and HFS+ journaled and non-journaled file systems.

3. What is Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and what is it used for?

The DMZ screen allows one (1) local user to be exposed to the Internet for use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one (1) computer.  

On the other hand, Port Forwarding is more secure because it only opens the ports you want to open.


4. Does the Linksys EA9200 support Repeater or Wireless Bridge Mode?

No.  The Linksys EA9200 only supports Bridge Mode.

5. How do I set up my USB drive with the Linksys EA9200?

TROUBLESHOOTING


1. Does the Linksys app support the Smart Connect feature? 

Yes.  The Linksys app version 2.0 now supports the Smart Connect feature.

2. How can I reset the Linksys EA92000 to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways to reset the Linksys EA9200 to factory defaults:
  • Hardware Reset – Press and hold the Reset button at the back panel of the Linksys EA9200 for about 10 seconds then release.
  • Software Reset – Log in to your Linksys cloud account.  Under Router Settings, click Troubleshooting > Diagnostics.  Click Reset under Factory reset.
3. If I turned the Smart Connect OFF and configure the 5 GHz1 and 5 GHz2 with two (2) different SSIDs then enable the Smart Connect back ON, what will be the SSID?

The Tri-band router will retain whatever the SSID set on the 5 GHz1 radio band.

4. My Parental Controls blocks HTTPS but returns a blank page instead of redirecting to the Parental Controls screen.  Is this a normal behavior?

Yes, for HTTPS this is by design.  Some HTTP sites that redirect to HTTPS will produce a blank screen as well.

5. Does this support IPv6 RD for its internet connection?

Yes. It supports IPv6 RD and 6to4 tunneling.
