How to check the status of your range extender

Checking the status of your range extender is important so you can verify whether it is connected to your wireless network and whether it is getting the correct IP address from your router.

Click on your range extender’s model number below to know how to check its status:

Linksys RE6400, RE6300, RE6700, RE6500, RE3000W v2, or RE4100W
Linksys RE1000, RE2000, RE3000, RE3000W, or RE4000W

Linksys RE6400, RE6300, RE6700, RE6500, RE3000W v2, or RE4100W

Step 1:
Open a browser to log in to the web-based setup page of your range extender.

QUICK TIP:  There are three methods to log in:
  • Enter http://extender.linksys.com in the Address bar.
  • Enter the range extender’s IP address.
NOTE:   If your range extender is not yet configured, its default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  Once your extender is already configured you will need to look up the IP address in your router’s DHCP table.
  • For RE6400, RE6300 and RE6700, enter http://RE6x00-xxx for Window users or http://RE6x00-xxx.local for Mac® users, where xxx are the last three characters of the range extender's MAC address.
Step 2:
Under Status in the left navigation, click Device Info.

Step 3:
Under Network Address, check the Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.  These should be the same as your wireless router’s.  The IP Address should have the same first three octets as the Default Gateway.

QUICK TIP:  Every device in your network that’s connected to your wireless router should have the same first three octets as the Default Gateway, too.  For example, if the Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1, your other devices should have an IP address of 192.168.1.x, where x is the only value that’s different from each other.

Step 4:
In the left navigation under Status, click WLAN Statistics.

Step 5:
Check whether the Network Name (SSID) field is the same as your wireless network’s then check the Status below.  It should say Associated.
