Important things to remember in setting up Powerline adapters

While setting up your Powerline network is fast and easy, there are still some things that you should take into consideration as you go through the process.  Here are some important pointers to remember in setting up your Powerline network.

     1.     Always connect the Powerline adapters to the wall sockets at your home.

Why this works:  Basically, Powerline networks can easily be established if the adapters are directly connected to your wall sockets at home.  With this, there will be less disruptions, thus, better performance will be expected.

     2.     As much as possible, avoid connecting your Powerline adapters to power strips, extension cords, or surge protectors.

Why this works:  Plugging in your Powerline adapter to indirect sockets like power strips, surge protectors, or extension cords can affect your overall network speed.  Apart from that, the chances of the device not working properly are higher if it is plugged to such outlets.

     3.     Check the wall socket if it does not have a switch that can be turned ON/OFF.

Why this works:  Although you have a wall socket that you can use for your Powerline adapters, some of them come with a switch that can be manually operated.

Once the switch for your wall socket is turned OFF, your network connection will be cut off.  If you have this kind of wall socket, make sure that it is placed in a location where it cannot be easily nudged.

     4.     Make sure that your wall socket is away from items that may interfere with the wireless connection.

Why this works:  Determining a strategic location for the wall socket and the Powerline adapters ensures the seamless flow of wireless connectivity of your Powerline network.  If devices such as microwave ovens, baby monitors, and cordless telephones among others are near your wall socket, the connection might be greatly affected as well.

    5.      Make sure that your Powerline adapters are connected to the same circuit breaker.

What is a circuit breaker?  A circuit breaker is a device that can help your electrical circuits avoid any shortages and other faulty conditions.  Almost every home has a circuit breaker to manage all their electrical connections.

Circuit breakers are installed at almost every home to help in managing electrical connections.

Why this works:  If your Powerline adapters do not belong to a single circuit breaker, they will not be able to communicate with each other.  Thus, your Powerline network is not established.
