Configuring DMZ on your Linksys Gigabit VPN Router, LRT2x4

The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) port of your Linksys Gigabit VPN Router, LRT2x4 can separate publicly accessible servers and be replaced by an independent network.  When DMZ server is attacked, it ensures that public access cannot contact other internal network service.

Usually, the security level of external network is lower than the internal network.  To keep internal network security, the external network is usually not allowed to be directly connected to the internal network.  Thus it is recommended to put the servers of external services in the DMZ network such as DNS, WEB, FTP server, etc.  With this setup, even if the DMZ servers are hacked, it will be able to keep the internal network security.

The servers in the DMZ network have things in common:
  1. There is no confidential information in the servers.
  2. Even if the servers are hacked or virus infected, the internal network will not be affected.
The DMZ of the LRT has two (2) modes, Subnet and Range (DMZ and WAN within same subnet).
