Setting up a static IP address on the Linksys Wireless-N Extender

The Linksys Wireless-N Extender (RE1000, RE1000v1.5) lets you repeat the wireless signal of any access point or router to provide Internet connectivity in hard to reach areas through a wired or wireless connection.

The default IP address of the Linksys Wireless-N Extender is 192.168.1.1 but once it is already connected to your router, the router will automatically assign a different IP address to it so an IP address conflict will not occur.

Instead of letting the router assign IP address to your range extender, you also have the option of setting up a fixed IP address to connect to the Internet and allow easier access.  This will also be helpful if you notice that the Linksys Wireless-N Extender is resetting itself and reboot each time it is trying to get an IP address from the router.

Follow the instructions below to know how you can set a static IP address on the Linksys Wireless-N Extender.

Step 1:
Access the Linksys Range Extender’s web-based setup page.  For instructions, click here.

Step 2:
Click Setup.

Step 3:
Select the Static IP option under the Network Setup section.

Step 4:
Enter the desired Internet IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway for the Linksys Range Extender.

Step 5:
Click Save Settings to apply the changes.

Now, you should be able to access the Linksys Wireless-N Extender using the static IP address assigned to it.
