Checking the DNS Servers on a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router

Domain Name System (DNS) is an Internet service that translates domain names into IP Addresses.  For example, the domain name www.linksys.com will have a DNS server address that is equivalent to 66.161.11.93.

Checking the DNS is useful when:
  • Assigning the computer a static IP Address
  • Checking Internet connectivity
  • Setting up your gaming console (Xbox® or PlayStation®3)
  • Setting up a router with a Static IP account

QUICK TIP:  Getting a valid DNS is one of the ways to check if your Internet connectivity is working.

NOTE:  If you have a Static IP account, your IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway and DNS values will be provided by the ISP.  For instructions on how to setup the router using this connection type, click
