What is node signal strength?

Your mesh WiFi is made up of multiple nodes where each node houses antennas that emit WiFi waves.  Signal strength refers to how well a node hears the signal from another node.

How is node signal strength measured?

Signal strength has an RSSI value (Received Signal Strength Indicator) measured in dBm or decibels per milliwatt.  The dBm is expressed in negative values, with the higher the number meaning a better signal.

Should I aim for the highest signal strength possible?

Not necessarily.  Every home and network needs are different.  Depending on factors such as your home environment, signal interference, number of network devices, device activity, or internet service plan, your network may perform fine with lower signal strength.

Also keep in mind that while nodes placed closer together may have stronger signal strength, you could be losing out on the range.  The placement of nodes and signal strength should be based on your needs.

Does good signal strength guarantee good network performance?

Not necessarily.  Achieving good signal strength is a good place to start for optimizing your network but consider also the number of devices and bandwidth your network uses.

Where can I check my node signal strength?

On the Linksys app

Step 1:
Open the Linksys app and enter your Linksys cloud account credentials to log in.

Step 2:
Tap on the menu, and then go to Network Administration.

Step 3:
You will see a signal strength icon next to each node. Tap on each node to view the node details and see the exact RSSI (dBm) value.

From LinksysSmartWiFi.com

Step 1:
Launch a web browser and enter “LinksysSmartWiFi.com” in the Address bar and press [ENTER].

Step 2:
Enter your Linksys cloud account credentials, then click Sign In.

Step 3:
From the dashboard, click on Device List.

Step 4:
You will see a signal strength icon on each node.  Click on each node to view the node details and see the exact RSSI (dBm) value.
