6.  Can I plug my USB hard drive or a printer into its USB port?

The Linksys MX4200 v2 has one USB 3.0 port for a USB storage device.  However, virtual printing is not supported.


7.  Is it compatible with other Linksys Intelligent Mesh products?

Yes.  The Linksys MX4200 v2 is compatible with all Linksys Intelligent Mesh products.


8.  What type of processor does it have?

The Linksys MX4200 v2 has a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor.


9.  What are the default settings of the Linksys MX4200 v2?

The Linksys MX4200 v2 has the following default settings:
 
  • The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.
  • The default Guest network IP address range is 192.168.3.x.
NOTE:  If the upstream device uses the same IP address, the node will automatically use a different LAN IP address to avoid any conflict.
 
  • The default administrator password is admin of an unconfigured node with older firmware.  You can use the Linksys app to change the password after setting up the node.  

NOTE:  With the latest firmware with IMDA support, nodes do not have a default password.  When you attempt to access the local interface of a node in factory defaults, you will be forced to create an admin password before you can login. 
 
  • The default WiFi name is _VelopSetupxxx where xxx represents the last three digits of the node’s MAC address.
  • Each node has a unique pre-assigned WiFi password located at the bottom of the router.
  • The default Guest WiFi name is _VelopSetupxxx-guest where xxx represents the last three digits of the node’s MAC address.
  • By default, an unconfigured node has no guest password.  To create a password, you can set it up through the Linksys app.
  • The Guest network is disabled by default.  It can be enabled using the LinksysSmartWiFi.com page or the Linksys app.

10.  Does it support Linksys Aware and Linksys Shield?

Currently, the Linksys MX4200 v2 does not support Linksys Aware and Linksys Shield.


11.  How do I know the model number of my Linksys MX4200 v2?

The model number of your node is printed on the product label located at the bottom of the node.


12.  What are the weight and dimensions of the Linksys MX4200 v2?

The weight of a Linksys MX4200 v2 is 0.94 kg (2.15 lbs) and its dimensions are 4.45 in x 4.45 in x 9.57 in.  

SETUP AND INSTALLATION

  • A modem or gateway with an active internet connection
  • Latest version of the Linksys app

8.  If I have a mixed mesh network with other mesh models as child nodes, can I use WPA3 or any of the Enhanced Open security options?

No.  Other mesh models currently do not support these security options.  It is highly recommended to leave the setting to default, otherwise, your other child nodes will disconnect from the mesh network.

2.  What is the External Storage feature?

The External Storage feature of the Linksys MX4200 v2 allows you to connect an external storage device to its USB port to share an entire hard drive.

It features one USB 3.0 port for a storage drive.  If you have more than one node, you can connect a USB hard drive to each node.  To learn more, click

3.  What file system formats does this mesh system support? 

The Linksys MX4200 v2 supports these USB file formats:
 
  • Windows:  NTFS, and FAT32
  • Mac:  FAT32, and HFS+ (journaled, non-journaled)

4.  Does the USB port support File Transfer Protocol (FTP)?

No.  The USB port doesn't support FTP.


5.  How do I safely eject my hard drive from the node?

6.  Can I protect my hard drive from unauthorized access?

Yes.  You can do this by enabling Authentication on the node.

NOTE:  The username should have a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 alphanumeric characters while the password should have a minimum of four and a maximum of 50 alphanumeric characters.  Both can include valid characters such as an underscore ( _ ) or a dash ( - ).  To learn more about the External Storage feature of the Linksys MX4200 v2, click

7.  How can I access the storage device connected to the node?

8.  How can I reset the node to factory defaults?

To reset your node to its factory defaults, press and hold the reset button until the light on top of the node turns red, fades and flashes bright red.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure that a bright red flash, followed by three to four quick faded red pulses then another bright red flash occur before you release the button.


9.  How do I recover my admin password?

You can recover the admin password through the five-digit recovery code printed on the product label at the bottom.  To learn more, click

10.  Is there a HomeKit® limitation?

Yes, up to four child nodes are supported.


11.  I have five (or more) child nodes in my network, but I only see four child nodes in the Apple® Home app.  Why are my other child nodes not being detected?

Linksys currently supports the parent node and up to four child nodes.  If you have more than four child nodes, those nodes will not be detected when you are connecting your mesh network to the Apple Home app.
