I am getting a “Cannot access your router” message in Linksys Connect
When you are trying to access your router’s settings in Linksys Connect, you encounter the Cannot access your router message.
There are three (3) reasons why you are getting this error message:
- You are trying to access your router’s wireless settings using a wireless computer connected to a different network.
- Your router’s wireless settings may have been changed in the web-based setup page instead of the Linksys Connect Software.
- Your router’s password may have been changed using another computer in your network.
NOTE: The latest version of Linksys Connect will automatically synchronize any changes in the wireless settings made through the web-based setup page.
There are three (3) ways to resolve this issue:
One of the reasons why you are unable to access the Router Settings using Linksys Connect is because your computer is connected to a different wireless network. Make sure you are connected to the main network, not the –guest network. To learn how to manually connect to your wireless network without using the Easy Setup Key, click here.
NOTE: It is recommended to connect your computer to your router with an Ethernet cable when configuring your router’s settings using Linksys Connect or in the web-based setup page.
To update your Easy Setup Key, you will need to temporarily connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable.
NOTE: The image of the devices may vary depending on the model of your router or the type of computer you are using.
After connecting your computer to the router, you should be able to access your Linksys Connect Software. You can update your Easy Setup Key and then reconnect to your wireless network. To learn how to update your Easy Setup Key, click here. When the update is done, you can unplug the Ethernet cable and then follow the onscreen instructions on the Easy Setup Key Wizard.
QUICK TIP: If you are still unable to access the Linksys Connect Software, proceed to reset and re-install Linksys Connect.
Changing the router password in the web-based setup page may prevent you from being able to access your router settings in the Linksys Connect Software. To resolve this issue, you can reset your router to factory default settings, uninstall and reinstall the Linksys Connect Software on your main computer, then reconfigure your router’s settings through Linksys Connect.
QUICK TIP: When reconfiguring your router with Linksys Connect, it is recommended to connect your computer to your router using an Ethernet cable.
