1.  What is the Linksys RE6300 AC750 BOOST WiFi Range Extender?
 
The Linksys RE6300 AC750 BOOST WiFi Range Extender is a plug-in range extender that can easily increase the range of your home WiFi.  The single gigabit ethernet port allows a wired ethernet device, such as a computer or media server, to be bridged to the main router.  You can use the Linksys RE6300 as a wired range extender (Access Point mode) or as a wireless range extender (Range Extender mode).  For more information click here.

  • Ethernet cable if using the Linksys RE6300 in Access Point mode

2.  Do I need to install a setup software on my computer?
 
No.

3.  How do I set up the Linksys RE6300?
 
Setting up the Linksys RE6300 is simple since it doesn’t need a setup CD for installation.  It has a browser-based setup that will automatically guide you on how to set it up.  Click here to learn how to set up the range extender on Access Point mode.  To set it to Range Extender mode, click here.
 
NOTE:  If the IP address will not work, enter "http://extender.linksys.com" or "http://RE6300-xxx" for Windows® and Android™ or "http://RE6300-xxx.local" for macOS® (the xxx represents the last three characters of the MAC address). 


4.  Can I set up the Linksys RE6300 with a smart mobile device?
 
Yes.
 
5.  Can I set up my Linksys RE6300 using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS)?

6.  What is the default IP address and password of the Linksys RE6300?
 
The default IP address of the Linksys RE6300 is 192.168.1.1 and the default password is admin.  Once the range extender joins your network, the IP address will change and will obtain a new IP address automatically from your router's DHCP server.
 
Once your range extender is already configured you will need to look for the IP address in your router’s DHCP table.  To know how to do this, click
 here.  In this case, you may also access the browser-based setup page of the Linksys RE6300 by entering “http://extender.linksys.com” in the Address bar or “http://RE6300-xxx” (the xxx represents the last three characters of its MAC address).
   
7.  Can the Linksys RE6300 also extend the 5 GHz network of my dual-band router?
 
Yes.  The Linksys RE6300 can automatically extend both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies of dual-band routers.
 
8.  How do I reset my Linksys RE6300?
 
Press and hold the Reset button of your Linksys RE6300 for 10 to 20 seconds to reset it to its factory defaults.

9.  What are the two setup modes of my Linksys RE6300?

The Linksys RE6300 can be set up in two modes, Wired Range Extender Access Point mode (which requires an ethernet cable connected to your existing router) and Wireless Range Extender mode.

10.  How do I identify what mode the Linksys RE6300 is on?

After setting up the range extender, you can access its browser-based setup page to view the updated top header name.  If the Linksys RE6300 is on Access Point mode, the header will show Dual Band Wireless Access Point while on Range Extender mode it will show Dual Band Wireless Range Extender.

11.  How do I switch from Access Point mode to Range Extender mode?

1.  How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys RE6300?

WIRELESS CONNECTION AND SECURITY
 
1.  Can the Linksys RE6300 support a simultaneous dual-band connection (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz)?
 
Yes.  

2.  What Wi-Fi® standards and frequencies are supported by the Linksys RE6300?
 
The range extender supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies simultaneously.
 
3.  What WiFi security modes do the Linksys RE6300 support?
 
The Linksys RE6300 supports the following:
  • Access Point mode supports WPA2™ Personal and WPA2/WPA™ Mixed Mode.
  • Range Extender mode supports WPA2 Personal, WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode, and WEP.

NOTE:  WEP is no longer supported in the Access Point mode since it is not secure.  WEP is supported in the Range Extender mode to keep the compatibility with the upstream access point.
  

4.  What is the default WiFi name of my Linksys RE6300?
 
The default WiFi name of the Linksys RE6300 is Linksys Extender Setup–xxx (the xxx represents the last three digits of the range extender's MAC address).  
 
5.  How can I check if the Linksys RE6300 is connected to my existing WiFi?
 
To check if the Linksys RE6300 is connected to your WiFi, access the range extender’s browser-based setup page.  Then, click WLAN Statistics under Status then check the Network Name (SSID).  Your WiFi name should be shown there.

6.  Can I change the Extended Wireless Settings of my range extender?
 
Yes.  The Extended Wireless Settings feature of your Linksys RE6300 is the link between the range extender and the WiFi clients.  By default, the range extender follows the WiFi settings of your router.  To learn how to change the WiFi settings of the Linksys RE6300, click here.

NOTE:  The MAC address printed at the back of the range extender is for the ethernet port, NOT the wireless radio.

To know which access point your Linksys RE6300 is connected to, access the range extender’s browser-based setup page.  Once there, click WLAN Statistics under Status then check the AP MAC address section.  Take note of this address as this is the access point your Linksys RE6300 is connected to.

TROUBLESHOOTING

 
1.  What should I do if I cannot connect the Linksys RE6300 to the router or access point?
 
Here are some things you can do to check the position of your router and range extender:

 
  • Make sure you are using the same WiFi name and password as your existing wireless router or access point.
  • For first-time setup, you may need to place the range extender closer to the router.  After you’ve set up your range extender, you can unplug and move it closer to the router.
  • To reduce signal obstructions, try alternate locations for the router and range extender.
  • Avoid placing the router and range extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces such as glasses or mirrors.
  • Avoid placing the router and range extender near other electronics that may cause signal interference.
  • If you’re using WPS to connect, wait until the WPS indicator stops blinking before trying to make the connection again.
  • Properly position the range extender's antennas.
 
2.  What should I do if I cannot access the Linksys RE6300?

3.  What should I do if I experience intermittent connection while connected to the Linksys RE6300?
