Beamforming is a radio wave technology that allows a router to transmit radio signals in the direction of the connected devices – thus creating a stronger, faster, and more reliable WiFi communication.

4.  What WiFi security types does the Linksys E8450 support?

The Linksys E8450 supports WPA2™ Personal (Default), WPA2 Enterprise, WPA3™ Personal, WPA3 Enterprise, and WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Personal.

5.  What is EasyMesh?

Below are the requirements for setting up the Linksys E8450:

 
  • Working internet connection
  • Wireless or wired computer for with the latest web browser version of Google Chrome™, Firefox®, Safari® (for Mac® or iPad®), and Microsoft Edge® or Internet Explorer® version 8 or higher (for Windows®)
  • Latest firmware (with EasyMesh support)

5.  What are the default settings of the Linksys E8450?

Below are the default settings of the Linksys E8450:

 
  • IP address - 192.168.1.1
NOTE:  If there is an IP conflict with an existing upstream connection, you can also try using 10.0.0.1.
  • Router password - admin  
  • WiFi name - Linksysxxxxx and Linksysxxxxx_5GHz where xxxxx represents the last five digits of the serial number
  • Default Guest network - Linksysxxxxx-guest and Linksysxxxxx_5GHz-guest where xxxxx represents the last five digits of the serial number while the default Guest password is guest

TROUBLESHOOTING 
 

1.  How can I reset the Linksys E8450 to factory defaults?

You can reset the Linksys E8450 to factory defaults through the router’s web interface or using the Reset button.  Click here for a guide on how to reset the router.

2.  How do I know if I have successfully reset the Linksys E8450?

From a wireless computer, wait until the default WiFi name appears then you can set up the router again.  The default WiFi names are Linksysxxxxx and Linksysxxxxx_5GHz where xxxxx represents the last five digits of the serial number.

3.  I don’t have an EasyMesh option in the router’s web interface.  What should I do?

The EasyMesh feature can be found under Configuration > Wi-Fi > Basic Wireless Settings.  If you do not see this option, you need to update the firmware on your router.  For instructions, click here.

4.  I connected a USB drive to a child node and can’t access the drive.  What should I do?

The USB storage feature is only supported on the parent node.

5.  Can I add a Linksys Velop product or Linksys Mesh router as a child node?

No.  Linksys Velop nodes or Mesh routers are not compatible with Linksys EasyMesh products.


6.  Can I rename my child nodes from the web interface?

Yes.  To rename the child nodes using the web interface of the parent node, go to Configuration > Local Network and change the name of the nodes.  Only the Linksys EasyMesh products set as child nodes can be renamed.

7.  I cannot add a child node to the network.  What should I do?

If you are having a hard time adding a child node, check the following:
  • The EasyMesh feature is enabled on the parent node.  To enable the feature, click here.
  • The child node is on the firmware version that supports EasyMesh.  If not, update the child node to the latest firmware available on the Linksys support site.  Click here for instructions.

8.  How can I switch a parent node to be the child node and vice versa?

Reset your nodes and then set them up again accordingly.

9.  I was locked out of the web interface after five failed password attempts.  How can I fix this?

After a failed password attempt, you will see a countdown timer on the page.  Once this timer clears, you can then try entering your password again.  The timer increases after each failed attempt, however after five failed attempts you are permanently locked out of the router.  To fix this, reset and reconfigure the router.
