The Linksys RE6700 AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender is one of the latest Wireless-AC range extenders from Linksys that operates on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies simultaneously.  It allows you to repeat the wireless signal of any access point or router in order to provide internet connectivity to hard-to-reach areas through a wireless connection.
  Linksys RE6700 also offers the option to use it as a wired range extender (Access Point mode) or a wireless range extender (Range Extender mode).

  • Flashing red - When the extender cannot establish a connection or encounters a problem
  • Solid red - Weak signal on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz connection
QUICK TIP:  If your Linksys RE6700 is solid red, unplug the extender and move it closer to the router.  On the other hand, if it is flashing red, simply unplug and reconnect the extender.

4. What default IP address and password can be used to log in to the Linksys RE6700?
 
The default IP address of the Linksys RE6700 is 192.168.1.1 and password is admin.  However, once the Linksys RE6700 is connected to your existing network, your wireless router will automatically assign a different IP address and treat it as a DHCP client.  In this case, you may easily access the web-based setup page of the Linksys RE6700 by entering “http://extender.linksys.com” in the Address bar, or its friendly name “http://RE6700-xxx” or “http://RE6700-xxx.local” for macOS® where xxx are the last three characters of its MAC address.
 
5. Can I set up my Linksys RE6700 using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS)?  If so, how?

You can find the wireless MAC address of your range extender in its web-based setup page.  Go to Status > WLAN Statistics > Extender MAC address.  For detailed instructions, click here.

NOTE:  The MAC address printed at the back of the extender is for the ethernet port, NOT the wireless radio. 
 
8. How do I update the Wi-Fi settings of the Linksys RE6700 to match my router’s Wi-Fi settings?

Step 1:
Connect a wireless computer or mobile device to your range extender's Wi-Fi.

Step 2:
Access "
http://extender.linksys.com" on your web browser.

NOTE:  Enter your range extender's admin password if you're prompted.

Step 3:
Go to Wireless > Basic Settings.

Step 4:
On the 2.4 GHz Extended Wireless Settings section, check the
Make same as router settings. checkbox.  Do the same for the 5 GHz Extender Wireless Settings if you also have it, then click Save.
 
9. Can I change the Wi-Fi name my extender is broadcasting?

10. How can I check if the Linksys RE6700 is connected to my existing Wi-Fi?
 
To check if the Linksys RE6700 is connected to your network, access the range extender’s web-based setup page.  Then, click WLAN Statistics under Status then check the Network Name (SSID).  Your Wi-Fi name should be shown there.
 
11. I have multiple wireless routers or access points in my network, how can I tell which access point / wireless router my extender is connected to?
 
To know which access point your Linksys RE6700 is connected to, access the range extender’s web-based setup page.  Once there, click WLAN Statistics under Status then check the AP MAC address section.  Take note of this address as this is the access point your Linksys RE6700 is connected to.

Here are some things you can do to check the position of your router and extender:
  • Make sure you are using the same Wi-Fi name and password as your existing wireless router or access point.
  • For first-time setup, you may need to place the extender closer to the router.  After you’ve set up your extender, you can unplug it and move it to the final location.
  • To reduce signal obstructions, try alternate locations for the router and extender.
  • Avoid placing the router and extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces such as glass or mirrors.
  • Avoid placing the router and extender near other electronics that may cause signal interference.
  • If you’re using WPS to connect, wait until the WPS indicator stops blinking before trying to make the connection again.
  • Properly position the range extender's antennas.

2. What should I do when I cannot access the Linksys RE6700?
 
If you cannot access the Linksys RE6700, try any of the following troubleshooting methods:
  • Powercycle the range extender.

  • Connect your computer to the range extender’s LAN port and attempt to access it via the default IP address and check the Wi-Fi settings.
