How to add a wired child node to the Velop system using the Linksys app

Velop nodes can be connected with ethernet cables. Wiring nodes together can increase the range and speed of your Velop system and reduce the risk of wireless interference.

You will still have to set up the additional nodes wirelessly using the Linksys app; once this is done, connect the nodes using
CAT5e or higher rated ethernet cables and the nodes should automatically switch to a wired connection.

Directions

Step 1:
Set up the parent node using the Linksys app (if not yet set up). To learn how to do that, click on the appropriate link below:

Step 2:
Add the child node using the Linksys app. To learn how to do that, click on the appropriate link below:

Step 3:
Once the child node has been added to the Velop system, move the child node to your desired location then connect it to a power outlet.

Step 4:
Connect an ethernet cable to the child node and connect the other end of the cable to the parent node. The nodes will automatically switch to a wired connection.

For nodes with multiple ports, c
onnect an ethernet cable to the internet port of the child node and connect the other end of the cable to a LAN port on the parent node.

Step 5:
If you have other nodes to add, repeat Steps 2-3
but connect the additional child nodes to the upstream node instead of connecting them to the parent node.

You have now set up a wired Velop system. Keep in mind that the nodes need to be plugged into a power source. They do not provide power over ethernet (non-PoE); however, they can use managed or unmanaged switches. To learn more, click here.
