Configuring a gateway with PPPoE or PPPoA connection
Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) and Point-to-Point Protocol over Asynchronous Transfer Mode (PPPoA) are Internet connection types mainly used by Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) ISPs to establish Internet connection for end-users. These are used mainly for DSL and Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) services.
Setting up the Gateway using the Setup Wizard
The recommended way to install a Linksys gateway is to use the Setup Wizard from the Setup CD included in your gateway's package.
NOTE: If for some reason you are not able to use the Setup CD, follow the steps below for to manually install your gateway.
Configuring the Gateway with PPPoE or PPPoA on the web-based setup page
Access the gateway's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.
NOTE: If you are using a Mac® computer to access the gateway's web-based setup page, click here.
Look for the Internet Connection Type on the left section and choose from the drop-down list the Encapsulation that corresponds to your ISP.
On the VC Settings, select the Multiplexing value that corresponds to your ISP’s preference.
Look for Autodetect and select Disable if your ISP provided you the VPI and VCI range for the Virtual Circuit settings. Otherwise, set it to Enable.
NOTE: In this example, 0 for VPI and 38 for VCI are used as the range.
Look for DSL Modulation and select the value that corresponds to your ISP’s specification from the drop-down options.
NOTE: In this example, MultiMode is used.
From the Optional Settings section, set the MTU based on the value your ISP needs you to setup.
NOTE: If you select Manual, set the Size as provided by your ISP.
Enter the User Name and Password given by your ISP including the domain in the username if necessary such as "email@example.com".
NOTE: If you are not sure about your User Name and Password, contact your ISP.
Click Save Settings.
Look for the Internet Connection section and click Connect to connect to the Internet.
