Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Easy Install The linksys MX5 was an extremely simple install. This unit replaced a WRT3200ACM router which worked well, but wow the MX5 is awesome. I have a strong signal in every spot in my house. Absolutely no dead spots. The wifi speed is also allot faster throughout my house making my streaming experience much more enjoyable. We stream everything at my house, no cable tv, and the MX5 handles it great. With multiple laptops, Ipad, Iphones, etc. using wifi ive had no slowdown/buffering. Just a heads up, the MX5 unit is large. Very happy with the new wifi system. Great job Linksys!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Few Firmware Updates, buggy video calling I bought this product around a year ago, and there have only been two firmware updates since then (one last January 2020 and another in March 2020). I'm disappointed that there have not been more firmware updates to resolve issues as I have had video calls sporadically lag or drop with this router. This is especially true during a time when so many are working from home, so router security and video calling are very important. I've reported the video calling issues via the app, and commented on their community forums and it has not yet been resolved. This is especially disappointing given the $400 price tag of this router. This router was also advertised that in a future firmware update it would get HomeKit support, and as of yet that has not happened either, which seems like false advertising to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice This review is my review of the Linksys MX5. A WiFi 6 Linksys Mesh router Velop AX. Unboxing you find the contents are: A Quick Start Setup guide, the Velop AX, a ribbon ethernet cable (for connection to internet via cable modem), a power brick(110 vac to 12vdc 4A) All product parts are white and all nicely neatly packaged. The setup guide asked for Linksys app to be installed on IOs or on android platform. Set up uses a Bluetooth connection which I used on IOs iPhone. Setup on app has easy to follow steps. There is one LED that is on a top corner that shows status of Velop by changes in color and blinks. Back of setup guide has light explanation. Light can be blue, purple, yellow and red. Steady blue when connected. Setup was fairly easy, but takes a little over half an hour with the update. My house is about 3400 sq. ft. and 2 stories. I placed the Velop AX in an upstairs Loft room used for Computer/Study desks for family and kids. (It is front right corner of second floor)  I replaced a Linksys EA6900. I used the same SSID and password and it connected  to over 35 devices in that time.  Ring Doorbell, Several Desktops, Laptops, Notebooks, Tablets( iPad and Samsung), Roku Ultra, Apple TV, Sony Blu-Ray players with streaming, 10 Wifi security cameras, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Iphones, Google Phones, Wifi Lighting, Wifi controlled wall outlets and Samsung smart TV. Pretty much most common things made that connects via Wifi. A linksys extender(I did not use for connection to any device) and older velop nodes were also tested to connect to Velop AX all worked great together. The spec says 4x4 Mu-Mimo. and 2.2gHZ quad core processor. Ring doorbell is quicker to answer and see camera than older router. You can prioritize 3 devices.  (I have not yet found this necessary which is a good thing). All devices connect and stream without problems.  I have a superfast Comcast internet plan. I had 2 issues: One interesting problem is with the Linksys WUSB6300 WiFi usb adapters with latest windows drivers. They connected, but internet on Microsoft Edge and Chrome did not load web pages. Windows network trouble shooter says all is good, but web pages won't load. (And older driver for WUSB6300 work great) Customer service with Linksys is very good and they are working on it.  Second: a older iPhone Safari could not reach some websites.  Solution was to forget network and reconnect. All other Wifi Adapters internet speed is excellent. 867 Mbps at 50+ feet away with another adapter.  I really like the simple design and no external antennas.  It is noiseless. Blue LED on top shows connected.  Size ~4.5 "x 4.5"x 9.6" tall weight about 14 lbs. A USB 3.0 port is provided for external drive.  I use this for back up external hard drive.  Works good. It has one port for WAN to connect to Modem and 4 gigabit LAN ports to wire connect devices.  This is an improvement for the past Velop which only 2 ports per node were available and a separate unmanaged switch would be required to wire connect. Web app for changing default settings is similar to Linksys router owners. Default single SSID and security were created on setup. The router also can be configured to separate SSIDS to the 2.4 and 5 GHz band by web app. Settings for power users are accessible on web app. The always nice feature of making guest network with separate password is included. Parental controls via web app.  So far no dropped connections! I currently have not tried a Wi-Fi 6 device to check connection. The warranty and support is 3 years! I would recommend the Linksys Velop AX package MX5 for large family homes with many connected wifi devices.  It works great and Linksys support is very good.   (MX 10 is a 2 node package for larger homes). My disclosure: I was given this product for my honest evaluation and review of this product. This did not sway my opinion.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's good but still need some improvement I've been using this product for a few months, setup was super easy but still need improvement: 1. parental controls: it's very basic, for example, you can not block a category of service, such as social media 2. I had to restart both nodes few times when speed goes down 3. Did not receive an update for Homekit yet 4. WiFi speed: I have 500MB connection, but on WiFi I get only 157MB

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MX5 Great new additions. I was currently using the Velop 2 unit whole house system so I am very familiar with the equipment as well as admin and installation features of the Linksys smart app so setup went smooth. Stand alone the MX5 performed to expectations. 13 to 15 devices (active) on the network (cameras, multiple tablets TV's etc.) had no noticeable issues. Range was somewhat impacted but I added the previous nodes and further extended the range to the outdoor areas as well. The addition of 4 Gigabit LAN ports and addition of a USB 3.0 port adds flexibility and is a much welcome addition. This unit is larger than previous units but seems to run cooler and is not a distraction to the eye. I would recommend this product based on my experience with performance and reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This one gets a 10 rating! I finally received the MX5 after some confusion on when it actually shipped. It was well worth the extra wait. This Velop AX is a monster. I couldn't believe the size of this thing. I hooked it up to replace my master node on an exsisting home Velop wifi system. It installed fawlessly except I had to re-set my other nodes to slave off the new mode, but that was expected. I really like the new AX. The range is much better alone but when the other nodes are added, it is superb. This one gets a 10 rating in my book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Coverage Set up was easy with the app. I was also able to add a older Linksys node AC2200 from 2016 to increase my coverage and link speed allthough it really was not necessary. I have good coverage with approximately 12 devices connected. Streaming on line content is good. There is a scan feature in the app if you feel the need to have the node look for a better WiFi channel. I did not need to do any tweeks to this system, all worked good out of the box. Have been using for about 2 weeks now with no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MX5 is a beast! Upon opening the MX5 Velop I noticed the size increase as compared to my existing Linksys nodes. I also noticed the addition of of 4 LAN ports and a USB port which is a great addition/ improvement allowing for direct connect such as a printer or mass storage device via USB port. Set up was relatively easy previous experience with similar Linksys systems was helpful. Standalone the performance was as expected and provided equal or better coverage and a noticeable increase in speed. I did incorporate my existing nodes and have increased my coverage robustly throughout the house as well as large portions of front and back yard. I currently run between 12 and 20 devices on the network including cameras and smart switches and other wireless devices and have no performance or reliability issues. I would recommend this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Hardware - Software Needs a Little More Work I purchased three (3) units a month ago. I purchased the first one to test it, then purchased two more. I was initially very impressed, and I still am pleased with the purchase. Coming from three AirPort Extreme's, it feels like a very easy transition. Setup was a breeze, the units automatically selected the wired backhaul and provided three bands for access. Since it was an exact swap from the AirPort Extreme's, the comparison is very clear. Not seeing a lot of benefit as my access is only 50/50Mbps, and very few devices are AX. Of the ~50 devices on the network, most are "IoT" devices that don't need much speed (HomePods, thermostats, lights, computers, mobiles, etc.). The software is still a little buggy, as the network will occasionally slow down (Speed-tests, etc.), some routing and firewall features need a few resets to stabilize, and most bothersome is that the MX5300's do not handle legacy 802.11b devices very well. I had to switch back-on one of my AirPort APs to support my Carrier Infinity thermostats as they would not remain connected to the MX5300 APs. This is a straight comparison to my AirPort Extreme APs, and in summary the MX5300 provide me with a much better future, although they are currently a bit of a step back from my AirPort Extreme's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Range and Power! When I received this product I was extremely skeptical as the last velop system I used didn't have the wifi strength I expected. This tower greatly surpassed my expectations and seemlessly delivers 300mgb speeds evenly through most of my 3100sqft home. I merged good with the smaller nodes I previously had but the smaller nodes seemed to lower the quality of my WiFi so I removed them and went back to just this parent node and it did the trick!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing router, replacement for Airport Extreme I started to have issues with my beloved AirPort Extreme 6th generation due interferences, some I jump to MX5300 and I’m impressed. The coverage improves a lot and the performance is improved too. It’s good to know if I need to expand my network I can add another node, but actually I’m using it standalone. In my case I forced to use only the 5Ghz network because the 2.4Ghz is too problematic. Great purchase, very happy with it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy setup and good features Connecting and setup of router was easy! Have the router for about 3 weeks and it has been extremly easy to add new systems to the network. Easy to view connections and users attached to network. I've been having issues with phone coverage around the house. It appears I will need to add one or two devices to get better reception for my 2100 square foot home. Need to try two to three devices to see if that helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is a beast! I'm amazed at how well this is able to cover a odd shaped home with FAST WiFi. Setup through the app was quick and easy, sure beats the old days of having to log into a router from a numerical address. I really like having the extra ethernet ports on the router to connect wired items as well. The peace of mind knowing I am compatible with the latest standards is important to me so it's great that this is Wifi 6.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What A Lovely Router - Setup So So Easy! I upgraded to get Wifi 6. I have a Gig at home. Best decision I have made on router replacement. Love it, Brilliant! Living in a major city, you are fighting for bandwidth in apartment buildings. No more slowness or noise!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very advanced WPA3 and WiFi 6 ready Pros: 1. Stable 2. Solid build 3. Familiar GUI 4. Simple Setup (minor hickup) Cons: 1. Size 2. No Status lights except 1 RGB ontop 4. WPA3/WPA2 Mixed mode doesn't play well with WPA2 devices. 5. Gigabit Ethernet only (it supports 5.3 Gbps wirelessly but only 1 Gbps over Ethernet? When I unpacked the MX5 AX5300 ROUTER I was impressed with how solid and heavy it felt! It was a bit to talk to sit where my WRT1900acs was I have to find it a new home because of it's size! It seems to have to sit vertical for cooling, I had issues with putting it in WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode my devices only hit 40-50 Meg's in WPA2/3 Mixed mode in WPA2 they hit 200-250 Meg's!! I don't think the new WPA3 Standard is ready for prime time! There are no Devices I Know of that support WPA3 WiFi 6 yet becides a few routers? That will change soon it's good to be ready!! I think Linksys will fix the speed issue with the mixed mode soon with a firmware update! The lack of 10 Gigabit Ethernet is a drawback since the 5.3 Gbps is only between wireless devices! When we have faster Internet this will be a bottleneck. Becides the size and lack it lights for the ports I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Router Yet I received this router about a week ago. Before setting up this router, I used my cell phone and did speed tests all around my house and also outside in my yard. I then set this router up and did the same speed tests in the same locations. WOW...I couldn't believe on how much better this router performs than the old one. I thought the old router was doing fantastic, but this new one totally blew my mind. Even wired, it out performs my old router. This router covers my entire house and also my yard. I have never had a router that performed this good. I don't have any products that will connect at the AX speed, but that doesn't matter, this router outdoes any other router I have ever had, even before the AX devices start being popular. When they say Whole Home, they really mean Whole Home and outside too. Thank You Linksys for building such awesome products...They are totally worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Whole Home Wifi System! I have been using the MX5 Velop AX for a little while now and can fully recommend this "Whole home wifi system". I have a 3095 sqft home and have made this my main wifi system. I have zero dead spots and can even get 1 or 2 bars outside my house up to 20ft away. The setup was a breeze and it was very easy to navigate the settings menus. I would highly recommend the MX5!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Latest WIFI is Great I've had this for approx 1 week. Set up was easy with the Linksys app. I have the router in a second bedroom so coverage was good, but speed was lower than expected, however, I do have approx 12 devices connected. So, what I ended up doing was to add an older Velop AC2200 Node from 2016 that I had and it added with no issues. It sounds rediculas but I like my Laptop at full speeds (866 mbps) but is currently running at 703 mbps. I like to get things done in a hurry and not spend alot of time on-line. I do take into account that my IP may throttle down at times which is a whole other issue. I do recommend the MX5 as a whole home solution. I do have coverage through the house. No Dead Spots. You can add nodes if needed which I have done just to increase the speed, but coverage was fine without the additional node. This Velop will also step you into future advancements as WiFi continues to evolve and higher standards are met.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MX5 Velop AX system the new norm in wifi I received the package last Saturday and installed this Monday. I previously had Version 2 of the original Velop system and had a mix of 2 original Velop nodes and 3 later Nodes connected to modem/router in bridge mode. Installing Mx5 system was probably one of the easiest installs I have done! I accessed the app on my IOS and it asked if I wanted to change my primary (node to modem) which I did and then followed the app and quickly was all setup! I then had to redo all my nodes and basically that was it!I also elected to change my network ssid and password which caused a complete update of all connected device! This meant more time but I felt the need to start fresh. I have not seen any dramatic increase in speed but my pages on the internet seem to be updating much faster! One other note if you have any smart home devices or AI( Alexa ,Google etc) they will all have to be reconnected unless you left your network ssid and password the same!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage with tons of app features Easy setup. Access your Linksys app on your smart phone. Be sure to log out and back into the app if you already access your account thru the app. This will add the Set Up a New Device to the menu. Be sure to update firmware on your Velop when connected. I used the automatic update method built into the app. I live in an apartment building with a lot of Wi-Fi traffic and the coverage is great. I only have 18 devices online all the time but have had as many as 25. Dead spots are a thing of the pass, I can still receive a strong signal when on the balcony furthest from the node. Once your velop is online go into the advanced Wi-Fi setting and click on Channel Finder to improve your speed and bandwidth on the node. I left the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz with the same name and password and allow it to choose the best one for my devices automatically. WSP connections worked fist time every time. The app has tons of features. This was all done using the android app. The unit is expensive No user’s manual, however you can find additional info at https://www.linksys.com/us/support-product?pid=01t2T000004ptzWQAQ Did not notice any significant speed improvement over my previous router Linksys WRT 1900 ACS and I do not have any other AX devices. I’m now ready for the future of Wi-Fi 6 devices. Love this router, but if you are a casual user with very few devices and only use for email and internet access save your money. If it is in your budget and you are looking for the latest mesh technology, I would definitely recommend this Router.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Velop TriBand MX5300 is a giant leap to WiFi6! The latest Velop MX5300 is a huge forward looking jump into the world of WiFi6 with a full implementation of the newest AX wireless network technologies. Everything is just what you expect, easy, straightforward and simple setup that fully integrates your existing network infrastructure including both "flat" and mesh equipment into a hybrid Mach speed system with total control over everything and it just works as it should - and as you expect from Linksys. Everything is well thought out, designed to impress and works perfectly straight out of the box. The bottom line is that you get what you want and what you need in one package, and it just works, and works well! Integrating with my existing WHW03 Velop and previous generation equipment is simply a matter of following the implementation setup instructions. My overall speeds are increased, even the non-WiFi connections, likely due to higher raw speed capabilities of the new CPU. Range is markedly improved beyond my expectations and I know that I will be tweaking things for a while because of the flexibility of the system.
