Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product with easy setup & excellent futures Load App, Plug it in, and its off and going. Really didn't expect this to have a signal so well to be able to replace older slower access point on each of our 3 floors, and at that its fast and stable. The Guest WiFi is great for friends and family while keeping our private network safe (and out of site). It has Parental Controls and you can even prioritize devices (like gaming PC's or consoles). It looks nice too, fits right into a room well and runs silent.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice Looking Router I received a single Velop MX5 AX5300 from Linksys in return for an honest review. Here are my findings: Pros: I like the design. It is aesthetically appealing and goes well with the family room décor. There is no array of blinking lights, just a single LED whose color indicates the status. Setup was fairly easy with no big surprises except that a smartphone or tablet is the preferred device for setup. There is a web interface available which I used after the initial setup. The device to router speeds along with better range are a welcome improvement over my old Wi-Fi router. Cons: There are a few things I like to do in terms of network management. I have about 30 home automation devices (plugs, light switches, personal assistants, etc.) which I prefer to be on a separate network. With my old router, I accomplished this by setting up a second guest network to segregate these devices and I specified this network to operate on the 2.4GHz band. The MX5 allows only a single guest network and one cannot specify what band(s) it is allowed to operate on. With the web based app, the Icon and Device Name can be changed for easy identification of devices on the non-guest network. However, neither one can be changed on the guest network. This makes identifying my 30 home automation devices nearly impossible when using the web interface. All you get are things like “Network Device” along with a generic Icon. Oddly, using the Android mobile app, the guest network Icon can be changed but still cannot change the device name. When the Icon is changed using the mobile app, the change appears in the web app. Go figure. A call to the Linksys customer service confirmed this functionality is correct!? There is no backup and restore function for the router settings. The mobile app for managing the router is a bit buggy in places but functions properly for the most part. Final Thoughts: I would like to see an option for a black colored one. This would fit my décor even better. On the first day of operation after I completed my setup, all of my home automation devices dropped offline within an hour. Rebooting the router brought them back online but they dropped offline again a little while later. I rebooted the router once again to bring them back online but within an hour, they all dropped offline again. At that point, I reverted back to my old router. My experience with devices dropping offline seem to be shared by many on the Linksys Community support page. I think I will wait for a few firmware update cycles along with some indication that the devices dropping offline problem has been fixed. At that point I will give it another try.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's good but still need some improvement I've been using this product for a few months, setup was super easy but still need improvement: 1. parental controls: it's very basic, for example, you can not block a category of service, such as social media 2. I had to restart both nodes few times when speed goes down 3. Did not receive an update for Homekit yet 4. WiFi speed: I have 500MB connection, but on WiFi I get only 157MB

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Router The Linksys MX5 Velop is the best router I have ever used. I plugged it in and followed the instructions and the router set itself up to all my connections. The Linksys MX5 is fast and reliable. Between myself and my family we have had over 20 devices going at once and this router handles all the internet connections without any problems. Also it is different looking as you do not have the antennaes. It is a heavey duty piece of needed equipment for me. I download movies, engineering drawing and various other types of files. The download speed is steady and fast. I would recommend this product to anyone that requires internet connection through their entire house.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from AX won't work if Security to WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode! I bought 3 of this router and put it around my house on Feb, 2020. I updated to the latest Firmware as of Aug, 2020. I notices my new Dell Laptop which have an AX WiFi build in will never connected on the 802.11AX Protocol. It is always go to 802.11AC. I tried other laptops that have the AX wifi, same thing! I have set my Router in WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode for security because most of my devices in my house are still 802.11AC. I called Linksys support and spend hours! Only to find out in order for my Laptop's 802.11AX to work; I have to set one of the 5GHZ channel to WPA3 only. The router have (1) 2.4 GHZ channel and (2X) 5GHZ. So basically you need to set your first 5GHZ channel to WPA 3 only and set the second 5GHZ channel to WPA 2! You can't even reverse this, if you put WPA 2 on your first 5GHZ channel and put WPA 3 on the second channel it won't work! I hope they fix this bug! Because I just help a friend setup a cheap TPLink AX Router that sell for $200 in Amazon, and it worked right out of the box by setting the Security to WPA2/3 mixed mode! Why a router cost double the price can't do this?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Easy Install The linksys MX5 was an extremely simple install. This unit replaced a WRT3200ACM router which worked well, but wow the MX5 is awesome. I have a strong signal in every spot in my house. Absolutely no dead spots. The wifi speed is also allot faster throughout my house making my streaming experience much more enjoyable. We stream everything at my house, no cable tv, and the MX5 handles it great. With multiple laptops, Ipad, Iphones, etc. using wifi ive had no slowdown/buffering. Just a heads up, the MX5 unit is large. Very happy with the new wifi system. Great job Linksys!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FRUSTRATED!!!! MX5 arrived 11/22/19. Installed and since that time has had intermittent connection. Performed ALL trouble shooting and still issue. Called Linksys Support - call back took over an hour of waiting - only to be told they don't support the MX5 and was transferred. After being on hold 1 hour 38 minutes, hung up. What a waste of time!!!! Returning this piece of JUNK and going back to my old router that has MUCH better signal strength, coverage, and connectivity and doesn't cost and arm and a leg!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice This review is my review of the Linksys MX5. A WiFi 6 Linksys Mesh router Velop AX. Unboxing you find the contents are: A Quick Start Setup guide, the Velop AX, a ribbon ethernet cable (for connection to internet via cable modem), a power brick(110 vac to 12vdc 4A) All product parts are white and all nicely neatly packaged. The setup guide asked for Linksys app to be installed on IOs or on android platform. Set up uses a Bluetooth connection which I used on IOs iPhone. Setup on app has easy to follow steps. There is one LED that is on a top corner that shows status of Velop by changes in color and blinks. Back of setup guide has light explanation. Light can be blue, purple, yellow and red. Steady blue when connected. Setup was fairly easy, but takes a little over half an hour with the update. My house is about 3400 sq. ft. and 2 stories. I placed the Velop AX in an upstairs Loft room used for Computer/Study desks for family and kids. (It is front right corner of second floor)  I replaced a Linksys EA6900. I used the same SSID and password and it connected  to over 35 devices in that time.  Ring Doorbell, Several Desktops, Laptops, Notebooks, Tablets( iPad and Samsung), Roku Ultra, Apple TV, Sony Blu-Ray players with streaming, 10 Wifi security cameras, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Iphones, Google Phones, Wifi Lighting, Wifi controlled wall outlets and Samsung smart TV. Pretty much most common things made that connects via Wifi. A linksys extender(I did not use for connection to any device) and older velop nodes were also tested to connect to Velop AX all worked great together. The spec says 4x4 Mu-Mimo. and 2.2gHZ quad core processor. Ring doorbell is quicker to answer and see camera than older router. You can prioritize 3 devices.  (I have not yet found this necessary which is a good thing). All devices connect and stream without problems.  I have a superfast Comcast internet plan. I had 2 issues: One interesting problem is with the Linksys WUSB6300 WiFi usb adapters with latest windows drivers. They connected, but internet on Microsoft Edge and Chrome did not load web pages. Windows network trouble shooter says all is good, but web pages won't load. (And older driver for WUSB6300 work great) Customer service with Linksys is very good and they are working on it.  Second: a older iPhone Safari could not reach some websites.  Solution was to forget network and reconnect. All other Wifi Adapters internet speed is excellent. 867 Mbps at 50+ feet away with another adapter.  I really like the simple design and no external antennas.  It is noiseless. Blue LED on top shows connected.  Size ~4.5 "x 4.5"x 9.6" tall weight about 14 lbs. A USB 3.0 port is provided for external drive.  I use this for back up external hard drive.  Works good. It has one port for WAN to connect to Modem and 4 gigabit LAN ports to wire connect devices.  This is an improvement for the past Velop which only 2 ports per node were available and a separate unmanaged switch would be required to wire connect. Web app for changing default settings is similar to Linksys router owners. Default single SSID and security were created on setup. The router also can be configured to separate SSIDS to the 2.4 and 5 GHz band by web app. Settings for power users are accessible on web app. The always nice feature of making guest network with separate password is included. Parental controls via web app.  So far no dropped connections! I currently have not tried a Wi-Fi 6 device to check connection. The warranty and support is 3 years! I would recommend the Linksys Velop AX package MX5 for large family homes with many connected wifi devices.  It works great and Linksys support is very good.   (MX 10 is a 2 node package for larger homes). My disclosure: I was given this product for my honest evaluation and review of this product. This did not sway my opinion.
