Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really like this unit! For four years, I have been running a Linksys EA9500 router for my house and could not have been happier. Fast forward to 2020 and I decided I would try a Velop MX series router just to see what all of the hype was about. I ended up getting the MX5 Velop AX. Right out of the gate, the setup was very easy and I had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. Since I used the same SSID and authentication, all of my devices immediately connected. One of the pestering issues I had with my EA9500 was throughput. I have gig-speed Internet with a high-end modem and network switch but I was far from seeing those speeds on my devices. I have newer devices which are capable of high WiFi speeds I have at work and other locations so the common denominator was my router. I am, once again, seeing the high speeds I was used to thanks to WiFI 6 afforded to me by the MX5. I have an HD multi-camera system at the house which I am now able to use without the occasional remote connection issues I had with the older router. Next, the plan is to add mesh nodes to augment the coverage in the corners of my house where there is weaker coverage. So far, so GREAT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful and Powerful The setup was straight-forward with directions from Linksys app and help online. Using the Linksys App made most of the work easy to follow as scripted. I found that a little knowledge of how networks work and the various components was helpful in the process, however. With a home network already in place, the setup created a second and separate network that also worked. There was no interference between networks. The MX5300 speed and range were quite evident as I tested the connection with different wireless devices. The mobile phone and tablet worked well in all locations of the house and property because of the up to 3000 square ft coverage. I need only one node for my single floor house. The connection to all the monitoring cameras worked with no difficulty. The video from the cameras were clear and crisp as well as fast. The Velop MX 5300 also could be setup as a bridge with my previous home network. It was a manageable process with online support from the Linksys website explaining the process in the great collection of documents dealing almost any question users could have in mind. Using the Velop as a bridge did disable several of the key functions user functions that make it a powerful device. In summary, the Velop Mesh WiFi 6 System that enhance any home or business. Easy to setup and powerful.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice Looking Router I received a single Velop MX5 AX5300 from Linksys in return for an honest review. Here are my findings: Pros: I like the design. It is aesthetically appealing and goes well with the family room décor. There is no array of blinking lights, just a single LED whose color indicates the status. Setup was fairly easy with no big surprises except that a smartphone or tablet is the preferred device for setup. There is a web interface available which I used after the initial setup. The device to router speeds along with better range are a welcome improvement over my old Wi-Fi router. Cons: There are a few things I like to do in terms of network management. I have about 30 home automation devices (plugs, light switches, personal assistants, etc.) which I prefer to be on a separate network. With my old router, I accomplished this by setting up a second guest network to segregate these devices and I specified this network to operate on the 2.4GHz band. The MX5 allows only a single guest network and one cannot specify what band(s) it is allowed to operate on. With the web based app, the Icon and Device Name can be changed for easy identification of devices on the non-guest network. However, neither one can be changed on the guest network. This makes identifying my 30 home automation devices nearly impossible when using the web interface. All you get are things like “Network Device” along with a generic Icon. Oddly, using the Android mobile app, the guest network Icon can be changed but still cannot change the device name. When the Icon is changed using the mobile app, the change appears in the web app. Go figure. A call to the Linksys customer service confirmed this functionality is correct!? There is no backup and restore function for the router settings. The mobile app for managing the router is a bit buggy in places but functions properly for the most part. Final Thoughts: I would like to see an option for a black colored one. This would fit my décor even better. On the first day of operation after I completed my setup, all of my home automation devices dropped offline within an hour. Rebooting the router brought them back online but they dropped offline again a little while later. I rebooted the router once again to bring them back online but within an hour, they all dropped offline again. At that point, I reverted back to my old router. My experience with devices dropping offline seem to be shared by many on the Linksys Community support page. I think I will wait for a few firmware update cycles along with some indication that the devices dropping offline problem has been fixed. At that point I will give it another try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent as expected! The setup on this router is so simple it only took about 5-10min. I used the app to from the play store to setup. Once setup speed tests were blazing fast As expected. Wifi stability and speed has been rock solid since I've been using it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FRUSTRATED!!!! MX5 arrived 11/22/19. Installed and since that time has had intermittent connection. Performed ALL trouble shooting and still issue. Called Linksys Support - call back took over an hour of waiting - only to be told they don't support the MX5 and was transferred. After being on hold 1 hour 38 minutes, hung up. What a waste of time!!!! Returning this piece of JUNK and going back to my old router that has MUCH better signal strength, coverage, and connectivity and doesn't cost and arm and a leg!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage with tons of app features Easy setup. Access your Linksys app on your smart phone. Be sure to log out and back into the app if you already access your account thru the app. This will add the Set Up a New Device to the menu. Be sure to update firmware on your Velop when connected. I used the automatic update method built into the app. I live in an apartment building with a lot of Wi-Fi traffic and the coverage is great. I only have 18 devices online all the time but have had as many as 25. Dead spots are a thing of the pass, I can still receive a strong signal when on the balcony furthest from the node. Once your velop is online go into the advanced Wi-Fi setting and click on Channel Finder to improve your speed and bandwidth on the node. I left the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz with the same name and password and allow it to choose the best one for my devices automatically. WSP connections worked fist time every time. The app has tons of features. This was all done using the android app. The unit is expensive No user’s manual, however you can find additional info at https://www.linksys.com/us/support-product?pid=01t2T000004ptzWQAQ Did not notice any significant speed improvement over my previous router Linksys WRT 1900 ACS and I do not have any other AX devices. I’m now ready for the future of Wi-Fi 6 devices. Love this router, but if you are a casual user with very few devices and only use for email and internet access save your money. If it is in your budget and you are looking for the latest mesh technology, I would definitely recommend this Router.
