Getting to know the Linksys E2100L

What is the Linksys E2100L?

The Linksys E2100L Advanced Wireless-N Router is a Linux-based router that provides powerful Wireless-N technology to your home.  It connects your computers, wireless printers, and other wireless devices with a speed of up to 300 Mbps.  It also allows you to share resources such as computers, printers, and files.

The Linksys E2100L has a USB port which connects to a USB storage device to share and access your portable files, and built-in UPnP AV media server to stream multimedia throughout your home and over the Internet.

NOTE:  A USB hard drive may require an external power supply. 

NOTE:  The Linksys E2100L router is only available in the US.

The Linksys E2100L provides a variety of security features to help protect your data and your privacy while you are online.  Security features include:

Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) security, which encrypts data on your wireless network
Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall to help block unauthorized access to your Linksys E2100L
Network Address Translation (NAT) technology, which enhances network protection by allowing your computers to share Internet access through a single, public Internet IP (Internet Protocol) address

Image  1, 2, 3, 4 (Blue):
These numbered LEDs, corresponding with the numbered ports on the Linksys E2100L back panel, serve two (2) purposes.  The LED is continuously lit when the Linksys E2100L is connected to a device through that port.  It flashes to indicate network activity over that port. 

 Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS):
If you have client devices, such as wireless adapters that support WPS, then you can use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup button to automatically configure wireless security for your wireless network.

 Image Wireless (Blue):
The Wireless LED lights up when the wireless feature is enabled.  It flashes when the Linksys E2100L sends or receives data over the wireless network.

 Image Internet (Blue):
The Internet LED lights up when there is a connection made through the Internet port.  It flashes to indicate network activity over it.

 Image Power (Blue):
The Power LED lights up when the Linksys E2100L is powered ON.  When the Linksys E2100L goes through its self-diagnostic mode during every boot-up, the LED flashes.  When the diagnostic is complete, the LED is continuously lit.

 Antenna Ports:
The female R-SMA antenna ports connect to the male R-SMA connectors of the included antennas.

Image Internet:
The Internet port is where you connect the Ethernet cable from the Cable or DSL modem that is provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Image 4, 3, 2, 1:
Using Ethernet cables, these Ethernet ports (4, 3, 2, 1) connect the Linksys E2100L to computers or other devices on your wired network that have Ethernet ports such as gaming consoles, HDTVs, Blu-ray disc players or printers.

Image USB Port:
The USB port is where a USB storage device will be connected.

Image Power:
The Power port is where you connect the power adapter.

Image  Reset:
The Reset button is located on the right side of the product label.  There are two (2) ways to reset the Linksys E2100L to its factory defaults.  Either press and hold the Reset button for approximately five (5) seconds, or restore the defaults from the Administration > Factory Defaults screen in the Linksys E2100L web-based setup page.
