What is MTU and How to Change the MTU Size

MTU is the Maximum Transmission Unit. It specifies the largest packet size permitted for Internet transmission. You can change the MTU Size when you want to permit large packet size transmission which is currently not your default MTU Size. 

The following procedures will guide you on how to change your MTU Size.

Step 1:
To login and access your Web User Interface, click  here.

Step 2:
At the Web GUI, click on Setup tab as shown in the following screenshot.

Step 3:
Click on Basic Setup tab as shown in the following screen shot.

Step 4:
Scroll down the page until you see this section called Optional Settings (required by some ISPs).

Step 5:
By default, you should be able to see the MTU option as Auto

NOTE: To have the Gateway select the best MTU for your Internet connection, leave the default settings as Auto.

Step 6:
Select Manual from the drop down list if you want to manually enter the largest packet size that should be transmitted.


Step 7:
Size
option will be enabled when Manual is selected. Leave this value in the 1200 to 1500 range.

NOTE: The default, MTU is configured automatically.

Step 8:
Click Save Settings icon for this changes to take effect.
