Troubleshooting network connection issues with Nintendo Wii™

Just like any other gaming consoles, Nintendo Wii™ is very easy to configure and connect to your wireless network.  If you are having issues connecting your Nintendo Wii™ to your wireless network, you might want to consider the following:

Incorrect wireless password
Router’s SSID broadcast is disabled
MAC Filtering is enabled
Interference from other wireless devices

This article will give you network connectivity troubleshooting tips for your Nintendo Wii™.

Incorrect wireless password

The most important part of a wireless router is the wireless security.  If this feature is disabled, everyone can freely access the Internet, or worse, access your shared network resources.   If your wireless network is equipped with a wireless password, you will need to enter the correct network key to your connecting wireless device to have access to your wireless network.  To learn how to check or change your wireless settings using your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account, click here.

Router’s SSID broadcast is disabled

If your router’s SSID broadcast is disabled, your gaming console will not be able to find the router’s wireless network name.  You will be able to connect by selecting Manual Setup in the console’s Wireless Connection setup and entering the router’s wireless settings accordingly.

MAC Filtering is enabled

Linksys Wi-Fi Routers and Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers have the feature to prevent wireless connection or allow only devices that are listed on its configuration page.  If your Nintendo Wii™ is unable to connect to your wireless network, this might be the reason why.  To learn how to configure MAC Filtering using your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account, click here.

Interference from other wireless devices

The most common reason why wireless devices are unable to connect to your wireless network is interference.  If other devices such as cordless phones and microwave ovens are in use, the router’s wireless signal may be interfered and your wireless devices might have sporadic wireless connection to the router.  To resolve this, ensure that your router is positioned far from other neighboring wireless transmitters and signal cancelling devices.
