Disabling Parental Controls on Linksys Connect to enable Access Restrictions in the web-based setup page

Disabling Parental Controls will enable the Access Restrictions feature of the router and vice versa.  If you do not have the Internet Access Restrictions tab in your web-based setup page, this is because you have enabled Parental Controls using the Linksys Connect software.

QUICK TIP:  If your router does not support Linksys Connect, click here to learn how to enable Access Policy or Access Restrictions.  The latest models of the Linksys wireless-N routers have a built-in Access Policy feature.  To know which model releases have a built-in Internet Access Restriction or Access Policy feature, click here.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

Step 1:
If you have set up Parental Controls on your Linksys wireless-N router, you will have to reset it first.  Using a pin, press and hold the Reset button located at the back of your router for 10 seconds.

NOTE:  The Reset button of the newer versions of Linksys wireless-N routers can be found at the bottom or underneath the device.

Step 2:
After resetting the Linksys wireless-N router, uninstall Linksys Connect on your computer.  To learn how, click here for instructions.

Step 3:
Reinstall Linksys Connect.  For instructions, click here.

NOTE:  Make sure that you do NOT set a password for Parental controls if you want to use Internet Access Restrictions on the web-based setup page.

Step 4:
Once you have successfully reinstalled Linksys Connect, it will automatically take you to the main Linksys Connect Center screen.  To access the web-based setup page, click Router settings > Advanced settings.  Click Copy password and click OK to continue.

Step 5:
An Authentication Required window will appear on your screen.  Enter your User Name and Password.  Click OK to continue.

Step 6:
On the web-based setup page, click on Access Restrictions.

Step 7:
Select Internet Access Policy (Enabled) option.

Step 8:
You will be prompted that Internet Access are currently Enabled.  Click OK to continue.

You will see the settings you can change on the screen, such as Schedule or Website Blocking by URL Address or Website Blocking by Keyword.

Step 9: 
Select a number from the Access Blocking Policy drop-down menu then enter your preferred policy name.

NOTE:  You can create up to 10 Internet access policies.
Step 10:
Click Edit List to add devices to the policy.

Step 11:
Specify devices by IP address or MAC address in the List of PCs screen.  Enter the appropriate IP addresses into the numbered IP fields.  If you have a range of IP addresses to filter, complete the appropriate IP Range fields.  You can also enter the MAC addresses of the computer into the numbered MAC fields.

Step 12:
Click Save Settings, then click Close.
Step 13:
Select either Deny or Allow to block or grant access to the list of devices.

Step 14:
Set the Schedule for your Access Blocking Policy by choosing Every Day or specific days of the week to block the Internet access.

Step 15:
Set the time when Internet access will be blocked.  Select 24 hours or select the option next to the time range drop-down menu to set the specific time range when Internet access will be blocked.

Step 16:
Enter the URL names of the websites you want to block in the Website Blocking by URL Address fields.
QUICK TIP:  If do not want to block any websites on your router, just skip this step.


Step 17:
To block specific applications and services, select the application from the Applications list then click the right arrow  button.
QUICK TIP:  If do not want to block any applications and services on your router, just skip this step.

NOTE:  You can remove the applications from the Blocked List section by selecting the application and clicking the left arrow  button.

NOTE:  If you can’t find the application you want to block from the Applications list, add this application to the list by entering the Application Name and its Port Range in the specified fields.  Select the protocol in the Protocol drop-down menu and click Add.

Step 18:
Once done, click Save Settings.


Repeat Steps 9-18 if you want to create more Access Blocking Policies.  You can create as much as 10 policies for the router.
