Troubleshooting Linksys Aware

User-added image

This article will show you how to troubleshoot issues with Linksys Aware.

Keep in mind:

Linksys Aware requires a tri-band mesh router (parent node) with the Linksys Aware update and at least one child node wirelessly connected to the parent node.

Question:  I have the latest firmware and I am using the latest Linksys app version, but why don’t I see the Linksys Aware feature?

Answer:

Linksys Aware requires a tri-band mesh router (parent node) with the Linksys Aware update and at least one child node wirelessly connected to the parent node.  If your mesh Wi-Fi system doesn’t meet those requirements, the app will not display Linksys Aware.

Question:  What if I have a Linksys tri-band mesh router (parent node) and no child nodes?

Answer:

Linksys Aware will NOT appear in the Linksys app until a child node is added to your network.

Question:  What if I have a tri-band mesh router (parent node) and one child node, but that child node is offline?

Answer:

If your child node is the only child node in the network and it is offline or disconnected from the network, you will see the message below in Linksys Aware.  This is because there is no child node to report the motion data back to the parent node.

To resolve the issue, check on the status of your child node.  Make sure that the node is turned ON.  If the light is solid red, try power cycling it by turning it OFF then ON again, or unplugging it and plugging it back in.

Question:  Is Linksys Aware available when I am logged in to the app locally with the admin password?

Answer:

No.  You will see Linksys Aware in the main menu, and you might see a Linksys Aware banner on the dashboard, but you have to log in with your email address and password to subscribe or use the feature.

Question:  What happens if I factory reset my Linksys tri-band parent node and then set it up again?

Answer:

If you factory reset your parent node and set it up using the same Linksys server account, you need to go to the My Account section, and tap on your subscription to subscribe again to Linksys Aware.

NOTE:  As long as you log in with the same email address and password, you will be able to restore your current subscription without being charged again.

Question:  Can I transfer my Linksys Aware subscription?

Answer:

Yes.  Only one subscription of Linksys Aware is supported for each Linksys server account.  If you have multiple networks under one Linksys server account, you can transfer your subscription among them.  However, the Linksys Aware settings will not be transferred, so you will have to configure the motion sensitivity settings again.  To learn more about this, click
here.

Question:  I purchased a used or refurbished Linksys WHW03, will Linksys Aware work with it?

Answer:

Yes.  As long as you reset the device and use a new Linksys server account to subscribe to Linksys Aware, the motion detection feature will work.

Question:  If I delete my last network or close my Linksys server account, will this cancel my Linksys Aware subscription as well?

Answer:

No.  For instructions on how to cancel a Linksys Aware subscription, click
here.

Question:  I turned OFF Motion Alerts, but it keeps turning back ON.  What should I do?

Answer:

This can happen in the following scenario:

You have an active motion alerts schedule or several schedules and all are set to ON.  For example, if you set Motion Alerts to the OFF position, the screen will display the next schedule that turns ON Motion Alerts.  In the screenshot below, after you turned OFF Motion Alerts, the status now shows Off until 10:00 pm Monday.  So when Monday, 10:00 pm comes around, Motion Alerts will turn ON again and the toggle switch will be back to the ON position.

You should edit or delete a schedule as needed to resolve the issue.

Question:  Why do I keep getting logged out of the app when I tap on Start Subscription?

Answer:

This happens if you are logged in locally with the admin password.  When you log in locally, you will see the Linksys Aware banner and the feature will appear in the menu icon, but subscribing to Linksys Aware is only supported when you are logged in with your email address and password.

Question:  How can I turn OFF motion alert notifications on a specific mobile device?

Answer:

If there are several users in the same home network who are using the Linksys app, all will receive notifications based on the current settings.  However, if some of the users would rather turn OFF Motion Alerts on a specific mobile device, they can do so from the Notifications menu for the individual mobile device.

Question:  If my child nodes are wired into the network, will the Linksys Aware feature work?

Answer:

No, Linksys Aware will NOT work on child nodes that are wired into the network.  You need a wireless connection among nodes to report the motion sensing data.

Question:  If there are several child nodes in my network, is there a way to determine which child node has detected motion?

Answer:

As of this moment, no.
