Enabling Remote Management on a Linksys router

Remote Management allows you to access and manage the router from a remote location, via the Internet.  Managing a Linksys router from a remote location is similar to accessing it locally.  The main difference is, instead of typing the router’s LAN IP Address in the web browser’s Address bar to access it; you have to type the router’s Internet IP Address.

QUICK TIP:  Before you begin the process, make sure that you know the LAN IP Address of the router since there’s no way of getting it remotely.

To enable remote management on a Linksys router, you need to perform three steps:

i.     Enabling Remote Management on a Linksys router
ii.    Checking the Internet IP address of a Linksys router
iii.   Accessing the Linksys router from a remote location

NOTE:  Before proceeding, make sure that the router is already installed properly and computers can go online when connected to it.  To enable Remote Management, follow the steps below:

Accessing a Linksys router from a remote location

Step 1:
Using a computer that’s connected to the Internet from a remote location, launch a web browser and enter “http://0.0.0.0:8080”, where 0 represents the router's Internet IP address, and 8080 represents the specified port on the Address field.

Step 2:
A window will then appear asking for a User name and Password.   Leave the User name blank, enter your new router’s password, then click OK.

You should now be able to manage the router through its web-based setup page from a remote location.
