Changing the range extender’s administrator password

When accessing the range extender’s web-based setup page, a login screen will appear requiring a password.  By default, the range extender’s administrator password is admin.  It is recommended to change the default password for security purposes.  This article will guide you on how to change your range extender's administrator password.

Step 1:
Open a browser to log in to the web-based setup page of your range extender.

QUICK TIP:  There are three methods to log in:

  • Enter the range extender’s IP address.
NOTE:  If your range extender is not yet configured, its default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  Once your range extender is already configured you will need to look up the IP address in your router’s DHCP Client table.  To know how to do this, click here.
  • For Linksys RE6400, RE6300 and RE6700, enter "http://RE6xx0-xxx" for Windows® or "http://RE6xx0-xxx.local" for Mac®,  where xxx are the last three characters of the range extender's MAC address.  For the RE6250, enter "http://RE6250" for Windows and "http://RE6250.local" for Mac.  For Linksys RE6350, enter "http://RE6350" for Windows and "http://RE6350.local" for Mac.

Step 2:
Enter your range extender's admin Password.  If you have changed your Password, enter that instead.  Otherwise, enter the default password which is "admin" in the field, then click Login.
