HARDWARE INFORMATION

1. What is the Linksys WAG120N Wireless-N Home ADSL2+ Modem Router?

The Linksys WAG120N Wireless-N Home ADSL2+ Modem Router lets  you  access  the  Internet  via  a wireless  connection  or  through  one  of  its  four (4) switched ports.  You  can  also  use  it  to  share  resources  such  as computers, printers and files. 

2. What IP Address, username and password are used to log in to the Linksys WAG120N?

The default IP Address is 192.168.1.1.  The username and password is admin.

3. How can I reset the Linksys WAG120N to factory defaults?

There are two (2) ways to reset the Linksys WAG120N to factory defaults.  Either press and hold the Reset button for approximately 30 seconds, or restore to factory defaults from the Administration > Factory Defaults screen of the web-based setup page.


4. What is the warranty period of the Linksys WAG120N?

The Linksys WAG120N supports RFC 2364 PPPoA, RFC 2516 PPPoE, RFC 2684 Routed, IPoA, RFC 2684 Bridged, and Bridged Mode Only Internet Connection types.

9. What types of wireless security does the Linksys WAG120N support?

The Linksys WAG120N supports WEP 64 or 128-bit, WPAâ„¢/WPA2â„¢-Personal, WPA-Mixed, WPA/WAP2-Enterprise, and RADIUS.

5. What does Group Key Renewal mean?

Group Key Renewal is an added network security feature that instructs the device how often it should change encryption keys.  The default is 3600 seconds.

LEDs

1. What LEDs does the Linksys WAG120N have and what do their colors mean?
 

  • POWER - Green
    ​​​The Power LED lights up and stays on while the gateway is powered ON.

 

  • ETHERNET 1, 2, 3, 4 - Green
    These numbered LEDs corresponding with the numbered ports on the gateway's back panel serve two (2) purposes.  If the LED is continuously lit, the gateway is successfully connected to a device through that port.  It flashes to indicate network activity over that port.

    

  • DSL - Green
    The DSL LED lights up whenever there is a successful DSL connection.  The LED flashes while the gateway is establishing the ADSL connection.

 

  • WI-FI PROTECTED SETUPâ„¢ BUTTON - Green
    The WPS LED flashes when you press the button to cause Wi-Fi Protected Setupâ„¢ to search for your WPS-supported wireless device.

    

  • WIRELESS - Green
    The Wireless LED lights up when the wireless feature is enabled.  It flashes when the gateway is actively sending or receiving data over the wireless network.

 

  • INTERNET - Green
    The Internet LED lights up and stays on when there is a connection made through the Internet port.  It flashes to indicate network activity over the Internet port.
     

TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Can I back up and restore settings on the Linksys WAG120N?

Yes.

2. I have a Wireless-N adapter and I don't seem to be getting the throughput when sharing files on my WLAN.  I have good signal strength as well.  What could be the problem?

Make sure the gateway is using AES encryption or none at all.  If the Linksys WAG120N is using WEP or TKIP algorithms, the throughput between the gateway and the wireless device will be drastically reduced.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE METHOD

1. How do I upgrade the firmware on the Linksys WAG120N?

On the web-based set up page, go to Administration tab > Firmware Upgrade.  Select the file to upgrade by using the browse button and then click upgrade.  Do not reset or powercycle the unit while it is upgrading.

NOTE:  Firmware upgrade should only be done using a wired connection.

1. What DDNS providers does the Linksys WAG120N support?

DynDNS.org and TZO are the DDNS service providers supported.

2. What Internet browsers can the Linksys WAG120N be used with?

Microsoft Internet Explorer® 6.0 or higher, Firefox® 1.0 or higher, Google Chrome™, and Safari® web browsers can be used.

3. What is Port Forwarding?


The Port Forwarding screen allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, FTP servers, email servers, or other specialized Internet applications.

4. What is UPnP?

The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) feature allows your computer to configure the router for various Internet applications, such as gaming and videoconferencing.

5. What is DMZ and what is it used for?


The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) feature allows one (1) local user to be exposed to the Internet for the use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming and videoconferencing.  DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one computer.  However, Port Range Forwarding is more secure compared to DMZ because it only opens the ports you want to have opened, while DMZ hosting opens all the ports of one computer, exposing the computer to the Internet.

6. Does the Linksys WAG120N have a web-based setup page?

Yes, the Linksys WAG120N has a web-based setup page that allows the user to change the settings of the gateway without using the text command.
