How to enable and configure the Guest access using Linksys Connect

What is Guest access?

The Guest access feature allows you to create a separate network for your guests without allowing them to access your main network and the computers connected to it.  Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers, Linksys X-series Gateways, and Linksys Wi-Fi Routers have the Guest access feature which you can manage using either the web-based setup page on selected models or through the Linksys Connect software.  If you have already installed your Linksys router but do not have the Linksys Connect software yet, click here to manually set it up.

IMPORTANT:  The Guest access feature is not available on the following Linksys Wi-Fi Routers models: E800, E900, E1700 and E2100L.

Step 2:
On the window that opens, click yes under Allow guest access.

QUICK TIP:  The Guest network name is simply your router's Wi-Fi name that is appended with a -guest suffix.  Changing your Wi-Fi name will also change your Guest network name.

Configuring the Guest access

You can configure the Guest access by personalizing its password or by selecting the number of guests allowed.

1.  Personalizing your Guest access Password

The Guest access Password is automatically set once you enable the Guest access feature.  For security purposes, the Guest access Password cannot be removed unless you disable the Guest access feature first.  To learn how to do this, click here.

IMPORTANT:  Before guest computers can connect to the internet through Wi-Fi, they must open a web browser first and enter the password you specified.  Devices that don’t have built-in web browsers must go through the main Wi-Fi to be able to go online.

To learn how to change the Guest access Password, follow the steps below:

Step 1:
In the Guest access settings window, click Change.

2.  Total guests allowed

You can also change the number of guests allowed in your network.  The Linksys Connect software allows up to 10 guest users.  However, for Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers, you can connect up to 50 guests by configuring it from the web-based setup page.  For instructions on how to manage Guest access using the Linksys cloud account, click here
