Installing the Linksys X-series Gateway as a router

The Linksys X-series Gateway is a high-speed modem-router that comes with the Linksys Connect software for easy set up.  You can install it as a modem-router or as a router only based on your Internet setup.

This article will guide you on how to install the Linksys X-series Gateway as a router only.

IMPORTANT:  Before you begin the installation, make sure the modem-router and the computer that you are going to use in setting up the device are both powered OFF.

Step 1:
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to your computer and the other end to an Ethernet port at the back of the modem-router.

Step 2:
Connect another Ethernet cable to the Cable port at the back of the modem-router then connect the other end to an Ethernet/LAN port on your modem.

Step 3:
Connect one end of the power adapter cord provided to the Power port and the other end to the electrical outlet.

Step 4:
Power ON both the computer and the modem-router.

NOTE:  The LEDs for Power, Wireless and Ethernet ports where the computer is connected should be lit.  If they do not, make sure that the power switch at the back of the modem-router is switched ON and the cables are securely connected.

You may now begin to configure your modem-router as a router only.
