Installing the NC100 in Windows XP

To install the Linksys NC100 adapter, you need to perform two steps:

  1. Connecting the NC100
  2. Installing the NC100 Driver 

Connecting theNC100

Step 1:
Power off the PC and any peripheral equipment attached to it.

Step 2:
Unplug the PC’s power cable.

Step 3:
Remove the PC’s outside cover.

NOTE: If there is uncertainty on how to open the PC’s outside cover, contact the PC manufacturer.

Step 4:
Open the computer and locate the PCI slot(s) on your motherboard.

NOTE: The PCI slots are easily identified by their beige or white color.

Step 5:
Remove the metal slot cover on the back of the PC then insert the NC100 into an empty PCI slot.

Step 6:
Secure the fastening tab to your PC’s chassis using a mounting screw once the adapter is firmly in place.

Step 7:
Replace the PC’s outside cover.

Step 8:
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port of the NC100.

Step 9:
Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a modem, switch, hub, or router.

Step 10:
Reconnect the PC’s power cable and power on the computer.

NOTE: After physically installing the NC100 into one of your computer’s PCI slots, install the device driver by following the instructions below.

Installing the NC100 Driver

Step 1:
After Windows XP automatically detects the wireless adapter, insert the Setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 2:
When the Found New Hardware Wizard window appears, click Install the software automatically (Recommended) then click Next.

NOTE: The Hardware Installation screen may appear indicating that the Adapter has not passed Windows Logo testing. Ignore the window and click Continue Anyway to proceed with the installation since the Adapter has been tested and found to work with Windows XP.

Step 3:
When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish. Your NC100 network adapter should now be installed.
