Setting up the range extender through a wired connection

Linksys range extenders can be configured using a wired connection aside from using the setup CD that comes with the device.  To configure the range extender manually, follow the steps below:

Check the Wi-Fi settings on the wireless router or access point

The Linksys wireless range extender and the wireless router or access point’s Wi-Fisettings should match in order for them to work properly.  You must first identify the following:

  • Wi-Fi Name
  • Wi-Fi channel
  • Wi-Fi security mode (WPA® / WPA2® Personal or WEP)
  • Wi-Fi password or passphrase

NOTE:  If you’re using a non-Linksys wireless router or access point, refer to your router’s documentation or contact your router’s manufacturer for assistance on getting these settings.

Connect the computer to the range extender

Using an ethernet cable, connect the range extender to the computer.  This will allow you to access its web-based setup page.

NOTE:  Images may vary depending on the type of computer you are using.  In this example, a laptop computer is used.
