Preparatory procedures before installing the Linksys X-series Gateway as a modem-router

The Linksys X-series Gateway is a high-speed modem-router that comes with the Linksys Connect software for easy setup.  You can install it as a modem-router or as a router only based on your Internet setup.

IMPORTANT:  Before you begin the installation process, make sure that all your network devices, including your computer(s) and the modem-router are powered OFF.  If you are currently using a DSL modem, you need to disconnect it since the Linksys X-series modem-router will replace your modem.

Step 1:
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to your computer and the other end to an Ethernet port at the back of the modem-router.

Step 2:
Connect one end of a phone cable to the DSL port at the back of the modem-router, and plug the other end to the wall jack with ADSL service or microfilter.

Step 3:
Connect one end of the power adapter cord to the Power port and the other end to the electrical outlet.

Step 4:
Power ON both the computer and the modem-router.

NOTE:  The LEDs for Power, Wireless, and Ethernet ports where the computer is connected should light up.  If they do not, make sure that the Power switch located beside the Power port at the back of the modem-router is switched ON and the cables are securely connected.

You may now begin to configure your modem-router.  To continue the process of setting up your Linksys X-series Gateway, click here.
