Setting up the X2000 gateway on a Mac® computer

Setting up your Linksys X-series gateway as a modem-router will make your device work as a DSL modem and a router at the same time.  If you have a DSL Internet Service Provider (ISP), this option provides Internet access and networking connectivity to your home’s computers, without the need for a separate modem and router.

This article will guide you on how to set up your modem-router using the setup wizard on a Mac® computer.

NOTE:  To download the Linksys Connect software of X2000, click here.

Step 1:
Insert the Setup CD into the DVD drive of your computer.

NOTE:  The Setup Wizard is compatible with Windows XP or higher and Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.  To setup the gateway using a Windows computer, click here.

Step 2:
Double-click Setup.

Step 3:
Go over the License Agreement, tick the checkbox then click Next >.

Step 4:
At the How will you be using your X2000 screen, select Modem-router then click Next >.

Step 5:
Connect the power cable.  If your router has a Power button, switch the device ON

If you have a DSL Internet connection, plug one end of the gray cable to the modem-router’s DSL port and connect the other end to the telephone jack on your wall. If you have Cable Internet connection, connect the cable to the modem-router’s Cable port.

NOTE:  For DSL connection, you will be asked to enter your ISP information.  Select your region, ISP, and the DSL settings your ISP has provided.

Step 6:
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to a yellow port at the back of the router and then connect the other end to your computer.  Click Next >.

Wait for the Linksys Connect software to configure the router.

Step 7:
Change the Router name (SSID) and Password and then click Next >.

NOTE:  Take note of the Router name (SSID) and the Password.  You will need these pieces of information when you connect additional wireless devices to the network.

Step 8:
Click OK.

Your Linksys X-Series gateway should now be set up.
