Linksys DPC3008 Advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Frequently Asked Questions

Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) is a common standard employed by Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs).  It transfers data over a cable TV system.
The default IP Address of the Linksys DPC3008 is
To reset the Linksys DPC3008, press and hold the Reset button for 2 seconds.  The Reset button is located at the back panel of the device.
IMPORTANT:  Press this button only if you are instructed by your ISP.

•    POWER – This LED is steady if the device is powered ON.
•    DS (Downstream) – This LED is steadily lit up if the modem is receiving data from the cable network.
•    US (Upstream) – This LED is steadily lit up if the modem is sending data to the cable network.
•    ONLINE – This LED is steady if  the modem is registered on the network and fully operational. 
•    LINK – Take note of the following activities for this LED:
o LED is steadily lit up – This means that the Ethernet connection is working.
o LED is blinking – This indicates that data is being transferred over the Ethernet connection.

The Linksys DPC3008 has the following ports:
•    POWER – This port is for the power adapter.
•    ETHERNET – This port connects the modem to your computer by Ethernet cable.
•    CABLE – This is for the coaxial cable provided by your ISP.

You can set your devices to obtain an IP Address automatically from the modem to ensure that they will get the correct TCP/IP settings.  For instructions on how to do that, click here.
Make sure that you are using the right cable.  The Linksys DPC3008 works with a standard coaxial cable.  Contact your ISP to verify if you are using the correct cable.
•    Make sure that your computer has an Ethernet card.
•    Make sure that the Ethernet driver software is properly installed.
NOTE:  If you purchased a separate Ethernet card, refer to the documentation for the installation procedure.
