Streaming or viewing media content on your Wi-Fi TV from your computer using Plex

Plex is a complete media solution which allows you to manage your digital media files as well as stream them to various Plex clients such as mobile devices, set top boxes and Wi-Fi TV’s from your computer or network attached storage.  With the Plex software and mobile application, you will be able to stream your video or music files, or view your image files in a slideshow over your wireless network on your wireless devices. 

This article will discuss how you can setup and stream your digital media files on your TV from your computer or network access storage through the Plex application and the Plex Media Server. 
 
NOTE:  Before you setup and stream media content to your TV through the Plex application, ensure the following:
  • If you have a Samsung Smart Wi-Fi TV, ensure that the Plex application is installed.  To know how to install the Plex application on your Wi-Fi TV, refer to its accompanying documentation.
  • Ensure that the Plex Media Server is installed and running on a computer connected to your wireless network.  To download the Plex Media Server installer for your computer, go to the Plex website and download the installer for your computer's operating system.
  • Ensure that all your media files are named and organized correctly. 
Once you have downloaded and installed the Plex application for your Wi-Fi TV and the Plex Media Server on your computer, you may begin setting up the Plex application.  Follow the instructions below to learn how:
  
 
NOTE:  If your smart Wi-Fi TV is not listed in this article, check your TV’s application store if the Plex application is available for your TV.  Refer to your TV’s documentation to learn how to download and install channels or applications to your Smart Wi-Fi TV. 
 
Samsung Smart Wi-Fi TV
 
            Step 1:
Go to the Smart Hub home screen and choose the Plex application. 
 
Step 2:
Once the Plex application is running, you will receive a prompt asking if the Plex Media Server is installed and running in your wireless network.  Click Continue to proceed.
 
NOTE:  If this is not your first time running the Plex application on your Samsung Smart Wi-Fi TV, the Plex application will automatically connect to the Plex Media Server.
 
Step 3:
Wait for the Plex application to detect the Plex Media Server running on your computer.
 
NOTE:  If the Plex application detects more than one (1) Plex Media Server, select only the media server you want to connect and stream content from. 
 
Step 4:
Press the navigation buttons on your remote control to select a media content to view.
 
You should now be able to view or stream digital media content from your computer or network attached storage to your Samsung Smart Wi-Fi TV through the Plex application. 
 
LG Smart TV
 
NOTE:  Downloading and installing the Plex application is no longer required for LG Smart TV’s.  The LG TV has the MediaLink service which syncs with the Plex Media Server to let you stream media content to your smart TV.
 
Step 1:
Press Home on your TV’s remote control to access the Home menu.
 
Step 2:
Press the navigation buttons on your remote control to navigate to the MediaLink and press ENTER.
 
Step 3:
Press the yellow button to select the Plex Online option.
 
Step 4:
Press ENTER to access your media files from your Plex Media Server.
 
Step 5:
Use the navigation buttons on your remote control to select a media content to view.
 
You should now be able to view or stream digital media content from your computer or network attached storage to your LG Smart TV through the Plex application.
 
NOTE:  Some media content may require you to download and install plug-ins.  Refer to your TV’s documentation to learn how to install the plug-ins to your TV.
