Changing the basic wireless settings using the Linksys cloud account

Changing the basic wireless settings of your network can be done using Linksys cloud account.  The basic wireless security settings feature on your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi lets you specify settings to protect your wireless network.

Why do you need it?

It is important to change the basic wireless security settings on your router to establish a unique and secure wireless network.  This includes naming your wireless network name (SSID), setting up a password, selecting the type of security mode that is applicable within your network or wireless devices, and adjusting the wireless channel to resolve any wireless interference.

NOTE:  Changing your wireless settings will disconnect all devices to your router.  You have to reconnect them using the new settings.  To learn how, click here.

The steps below will guide you on how to change the basic wireless security settings of your router.  You can click here for the video tutorial.

Step 1:
Access your Linksys cloud account.  To know how, click here.

NOTE:  If you haven’t set up a Linksys cloud account, click here to know how to create, activate and associate your account to your router.

Step 2:
Click Wireless on the left navigation pane under Router Settings.


Step 3:
The current wireless settings will then be displayed for both wireless bands, 2.4 and 5 GHz in the Wireless tab.  Select the wireless network radio band settings that you want to change by clicking Edit.

NOTE:  When you set up your router, a secure Guest network will be automatically created.  To know more about this, click here.

Step 4:
Specify the wireless security settings that you want to set up.



NOTE:  In this example, the Network name (SSID) and Password of the 2.4 GHz network are changed.  To learn more about the settings under the Wireless Tool, click here.

QUICK TIP:  Setting your Channel width and Channel options lessens the interference to your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router.  For more information, click here.  Also, available wireless channels may vary depending on your region.

Step 5:
Click Apply > Ok to save the changes.
