NOTE:  The Velop system is composed of nodes.  The first or primary node connects to your modem and serves as the hub of your system. 
 
2.  What are the parts of the node? 
 
The parts of a node:
  • Ports - one power, two gigabit ethernet ports (configurable as one internet port and one ethernet port for the first or primary node and two ethernet ports for the additional nodes)

6.  Does the Velop system come with a power adapter?
 
Yes.  Each node comes with 12 V, 2 A power adapter.
 
7.  What does the light on top of my node mean?

The light indicates the different status and activities of your node.  For a detailed description, click here.

8.  Can the radio waves emitted by Velop affect my health?

Velop complies with all regional regulatory and safety requirements governing output power levels and specific absorption rates.  It is safe to use, based on the guidelines set forth by each country’s or region’s regulatory bodies.

9.  Why are there holes all over my node?

The holes are for ventilation and to prevent overheating.

SETUP AND INSTALLATION
 
1.  How do I set up the first node in the Velop system?

2.  How do I add another node in my Velop system?

4.  Can I hardwire my Velop nodes together?

Yes.  
If your home is already wired with ethernet, you may want to take advantage of these connections to increase the range and speed of your Velop system and reduce wireless interference.  

You still have to set up all nodes wirelessly with the Linksys app.  Once a node is set up, you can connect it with an ethernet cable to another node.  Nodes need to be plugged into a power source, too.  To learn more on how to do this, click

5.  Does Velop support IPv6?

Yes.  

6.  Does Velop support VPN passthrough?

Yes.  Velop supports Internet Protocol Security (IPSec), Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), and Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP).

7.  What should I do with my old router after setting up the Velop system?

The Velop system is a complete replacement for your old router.  Recycle it or give it to a friend. 


8.  Is there a maximum number of nodes I can have in my Velop system?


The maximum number of nodes that can be added is still being tested by the Linksys engineering team.  We have tested six nodes in a single system.

9.  Is Velop compatible with DOCSIS 3.0 modem?

Yes.  Velop works with any DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

10.  Can I connect wired devices to my Velop network?

Yes.  If you have an available ethernet port on one of your configured nodes, you can connect a wired device with an ethernet cable.

11.  Can I add a switch to my Velop network?

Yes.  You can use an available ethernet port on any of your nodes to connect your switch.  To learn more about Managed switch use, click here.


12.  Does Velop have a web interface that I can log in to?

Yes.  If you have the latest Velop firmware you can manage your Velop system at

13.  Can I set up my Velop system using the web interface?

No.  You can only set up the Velop system using the Linksys app.  If you have any setup issues, contact Linksys support.


14.  Can a node replace a router?​

Yes.  That’s exactly what the first or primary node is.  If you are replacing your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router with Velop, click here.

15.  Will I be able to use both 5 GHz bands if the Velop nodes are wired together?

In the case of a wired Velop system, both of the 5 GHz bands can be used.  

16.  I purchased a Velop node, can I set it up to extend the signal of my existing router?

No.  If you have an existing router on the network, you can connect your Velop node using an ethernet cable and set the node in DHCP or bridge mode.  You can also add secondary nodes that repeat the signal of the first or primary node.

17.  How many Velop do I need?


Every home is unique.  You can use the Configurator on our Velop Landing page to determine the Wi-Fi system right for you.

18.  How many Velop can I add to my network? 

You can add as many Velop to your home as you’d like as every home is unique.  Take your home’s layout into consideration when figuring out the optimal number of Velops you need for your home.  This includes length, number of rooms, and any potential interference-inducing obstacles like brick walls, metal doors or large appliances.
 
Ideally the Velop connected to your modem is centrally located in your home.  It’s okay if that’s not possible in your particular setup, but we recommend doing so when you can.  We typically recommend 1 to 2 Velops per floor.  You can always start there and test out various ways of placing your Velop to maximize your coverage.  Since every home is different, so you can always add an additional Velop where needed.

If your home is already already wired with ethernet connection, you may want to take advantage of these connections to increase the range of your Velop network and reduce the risk of wireless interference.  For more information about this, click

2.  What is the Devices section of the Linksys app?
 
Devices gives you information on the devices connected to your system.  To learn more about this feature, click here.
 
3.  What is the Device Prioritization feature?
 
Device Prioritization allows you to choose up to three devices for priority usage of your internet connection.  Those devices, whether wired or wireless, will always have the best access when connecting to the internet.  For more information on how to configure this, click here.
 
4.  What is the Parental Controls feature?
 
Parental Controls allows you to manage internet usage by blocking access per device, blocking specific sites per device, and by setting a schedule for a device.  To learn how to block access or block websites on a device, click here.  To learn how to configure Parental Controls by a schedule, click here.
 
5.  What is the Guest Access feature?
 
Guest Access is a way for guests in your home to use your internet connection without having access to your other computers or devices in the network.  To know how to configure the Guest network, click

6.  What is the Speed Check feature?
 
Speed Check measures the download (from the internet) and upload (to the internet) speeds of your Velop.  To learn more, click here.
 
7.  How do I use the Channel Finder feature?
 

Channel Finder selects the channel with the least amount of traffic for each node in your Velop system.  To learn how to use this feature, click here.
 
8.  How do I tell if I am logged in via the cloud or local account?
 
Go to the Linksys app Menu and look for the My Account option.  My Account appears when you are logged in with your cloud account.  When you are logged in with the local account, you will have the Logout option instead.
 
9.  How many Wi-Fi names does the Velop system broadcast?
 
The Velop system displays one Wi-Fi name for the entire tri-band network.  However, with the latest firmware version, you can now use the Velop web interface to give the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands different Wi-Fi names.  To learn how, click here.

10.  How many Guest Wi-Fi names does the Velop system broadcast?
 
The Velop system displays one Guest Wi-Fi name for the entire tri-band network.
 
11.  What is the default Guest Access name and password?
 
The default Guest name is _VelopSetupxxx-guest and BeMyGuest is the default password.  It is strongly recommended that you enable Guest Access and rename your Guest Wi-Fi name and password.
 
12.  How many websites can be blocked using the Parental Controls?
 
You can block up to 10 specific websites.
 
13.  How many devices can I prioritize using Device Prioritization?
 
You can choose up to three devices to prioritize.
 
14.  What is Intelligent Mesh WiFi System?
 
The Velop system is an Intelligent Mesh WiFi system, which means the nodes can connect to each other over wired or wireless links and will choose the best path to route the data between a client and the internet.  If a node loses its connection to another node, the remaining nodes will self heal and reestablish internet connection through other nodes in the network.
 
15.  What is a primary or secondary node?
 
The first node that you install in your Velop system is wired to your modem and it is called the primary node.  
All additional nodes you install in your Velop system are secondary nodes.

16.  Does Velop have a DHCP server?

Yes.  The primary node (node connected to your modem with an internet connection) has a DHCP server. 

17.  Does Velop have a NAT Firewall?

Yes, the primary node (node connected to your modem with an internet connection) has a NAT Firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) feature.

18.  Does Velop have a MAC Filtering feature?

Yes.  Velop has a Wi-Fi MAC Filters that allows or blocks specific MAC addresses from connecting to your Wi-Fi.  To learn how to set up this feature, click here.

19.  Can I turn OFF the broadcasting of my Wi-Fi name?

No.  

20.  Can I personalize the Wi-Fi settings of my Velop system?

Yes.  You can change the Wi-Fi settings through the Linksys app.  Follow the steps below:
 
Step 1:
Launch the Linksys app and log in using your Linksys cloud account or tap the Log in with Router Password link instead to enter your router admin password.
 
Step 2:
On the dashboard, tap the Menu icon.
 
Step 3:
Tap Wi-Fi Settings.

Step 4:
Tap the field you want to change then tap Save once done.

21.  What does Reserve DHCP mean?

Reserve DHCP assigns a permanent IP address to a specific DHCP client.  To reserve an IP address, follow the steps below:

Step 1:
Launch your Linksys app and access your Velop dashboard.
 
Step 2:
Tap the Menu icon and then tap Devices.
 
Step 3:
Tap your online device under Connected Devices.
 
Step 4:
Tap Reserve DHCP.
 
NOTE:  Reserving an IP address can take up to 1 minute.  After an IP address has been reserved, you can tap Reserved IP to change the reserved Wi-Fi IP address if needed.

22.  How do I find the best location for the node?

Velop has a Spot Finder Technology that recommends the best placement of your nodes
to provide the most coverage and fastest speeds throughout your home. 

23.  How do I configure the DNS Settings of my Velop system?

You can configure the Domain Name System (DNS) Settings on the Local Network Settings of your Velop network.  To learn how, click here

24.  How do I check the IP address range of my Velop network?

On the dashboard of the Linksys app, tap the Menu icon and then Advanced Settings > Local Network Settings > IP address range.


25.  Why do my nodes broadcast the same Wi-Fi name?

If you have set up a primary node and added secondary nodes in your Velop system, they will work as one seamless network to provide a reliable, secure, and super-fast Wi-Fi for your home.

26.  How do I check if the nodes in my Velop network are online and working? 

On the dashboard of the Linksys app, tap the Menu icon and then tap Velop Administration.  All your connected nodes are listed here.  You can tap on a node to view its information. 

27.  Why is my old router still broadcasting its Wi-Fi name even if the Velop has been set up and working properly?

Below are some of the possible reasons:
  • Your router is still plugged in.  To solve this, unplug your old router.
  • If you have a modem router (gateway) and a Velop system, you might have two different private networks on your Wi-Fi also known as double network address translation or double NAT.  You can disable or keep the Wi-Fi name on the modem router (gateway), but it might interfere with seamless roaming on your Velop system.  We recommend disabling the extra Wi-Fi name or putting the modem router (gateway) in bridge mode.
28.  How do I connect to the Wi-Fi using the WPS PIN?

To connect to the Wi-Fi using the WPS PIN, follow the steps below:

Step 1:
Launch your Linksys app and access your Velop dashboard.
 
Step 2:
Tap the Menu icon and then select Wi-Fi Settings.
 
Step 3:
Tap Connect a Device With WPS.

Step 4:
Tap the Use a PIN link.

Step 5:
You can either enter your device's Wi-Fi Protected Setup PIN in the field provided and tap Connect or if your device asks you for the router's WPS PIN, use the PIN shown on the WPS page.

 
TROUBLESHOOTING
 
1.  How can I reset the node to factory defaults?
 
To reset the node to its factory defaults, press and hold until the light on top of the node turns red, fades, and flashes bright red again.  To learn more, click here
 
2.  How do I recover my admin password?
 

Before setup, the default admin password of a node is admin.  This changes during setup, when a random and secure Velop password is created.  In the event that the Linksys server is down for maintenance and you need to log in to the Velop system, but you have not changed the router’s password, you may not be able to log in.  You can recover your admin password without resetting your Velop system.  To learn how to recover your local password, click here.

3.  How do I restart my Velop network?

SPECIAL FEATURES

1.  What is bridge mode?


Bridge mode allows you to use your Velop system to extend your existing network.  If you have an existing router or modem router (gateway) and you want to continue using your main router, you can enhance your Wi-Fi network using the Velop system.

When in bridge mode, your Velop will not have its own separate network.  All nodes and devices connected to the nodes will be part of your existing network.  All devices, whether they are connected to a Velop node or to the modem router (gateway), should be able to communicate with each other.

 
2.  How do I put my Velop into bridge mode?


First set up your Velop with the Linksys app.  For instructions on how to set up the first or primary node with an iOS device, click here.  If you have an Android device, click here
 

Once your node is set up and running, you can then change the Connection Type to Bridge Mode using the Linksys app.  For instructions on how to do this, click here
 
3.  Where can I find the bridge mode option in the Linksys app?

On the dashboard of the Linksys app, tap the Menu icon and then tap Advanced Settings and Internet Settings.  In the Connection Type section, select Bridge Mode.  If you are using the Velop's web interface, log in to Velop dashboard > Connectivity > Internet Settings > Edit.  In the Connection Type section, select Bridge Mode.

4.  Why don’t I see bridge mode in my Linksys app?

Make sure you have Linksys app version 2.3.0 or later. 
Your Velops should also be running the latest firmware version.

5.  How can I tell if my Velop is in bridge mode?
 
Your Velop dashboard will show Your Velop is in bridge mode.  On your Linksys app, you can also go to Advance Settings > Internet Settings to check if your Connection Type is in Bridge Mode.  If you are using the Velop's web interface, a message “Your Velop is in bridge mode” will appear on the home page.

6.  What features are disabled when Velop is in bridge mode?

Device List, Speed Check, Parental Controls, Device Prioritization, Port Forwarding, and
Wi-Fi MAC Filters do not work when your Velop is in Bridge Mode.

7.  Do I need to leave the primary node hardwired to my existing router?

Yes.  The primary node must always stay connected via an ethernet cable to your existing router.

8.  Do I need to connect all secondary nodes via ethernet to my existing network?

No.  
Secondary nodes can be connected wirelessly or with an ethernet cable.

NOTE:  If you ever need to change the mode back to router mode (or any other mode besides bridge mode), any secondary node connected with an ethernet cable may go offline.

9.  How can I find the IP address of my nodes?

Open the dashboard of the Linksys app, tap the Menu icon and then tap Velop Administration.  
Select a node to view the IP address or tap IP Details to see the IP addresses for all nodes in your Velop system.  You can also check your router’s client’s table to find the IP addresses of your nodes.  If your nodes are switched to bridge mode, they will obtain an IP address from your existing network (DHCP server).

10.  If I have more than one node, do I need to change them all to bridge mode as well?

No.  After you choose the bridge mode option on the primary node, all your nodes will be in bridge mode.

11.  I have already set up a node in bridge mode, how can I add more nodes to my Velop system?

To add a node to an existing Velop system in bridge mode, open the Linksys app.  On the dashboard,  tap the Menu icon and then go to Set Up a New Product > Add Nodes to xxxxx (where xxxxx is the name of your current Velop system).   For instructions, click here.
