The Linksys CG7500 has the following product requirements:
  • An existing Cable Internet Service Provider (ISP) Account.  If you do not have an existing cable account, contact your local cable provider to sign up for broadband internet service.
NOTE:  The Linksys CG7500 will NOT work with Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service.

No.  The Linksys CG7500 does not have a battery backup.

SETUP & INSTALLATION
 
1.  Will the Linksys CG7500 work with my Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
 
The Linksys CG7500 is certified to work with internet service plans from popular cable providers such as:
  • Comcast XFINITY®
  • Charter Spectrum®
NOTE:  It is recommended to first contact your ISP to verify if your modem router is part of their list of supported devices.
 
2.  How do I set up my Linksys CG7500?

3.  Can I manually set up my Linksys CG7500?

4.  What if I already have a high-speed Cable internet account?
 
If you already have a high-speed Cable internet account, you may need to:
  • Contact your ISP and verify if your modem router is part of their approved list of devices.
  • Prepare the following information, which are necessary in activating or provisioning your modem router with your ISP:
  • Account holder’s details:
  • Account number associated with your broadband subscription
  • Phone number associated with your account
  • Serial Number (SN) of your modem router
  • Media Access Control (MAC) address of your modem router
 
5.  What are the default settings of the Linksys CG7500?
 
The Linksys CG7500 has the following default settings:
  • Default IP address is 192.168.1.1
  • Default password is admin
  • Default Wi-Fi network SSID is Linksysxxxxx
NOTE:  The xxxxx represents the last five digits of the modem router’s Serial number.  Also, the default Wi-Fi credentials are on the label of the device.
 
6.  I have a Cable service TV and it used to be connected to a splitter, what should I do?
 
Once you have successfully connected your Linksys CG7500 to the internet and you need assistance in connecting your Cable Service TV, you need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).  Click here for a list of Cable company contact information.

8.  What are the default Guest settings of the Linksys CG7500?
 
The Linksys CG7500 has the following default Guest settings:
  • Default Guest SSID:
    • Linksysxxxxx-Guest (for 2.4 GHz)
    • Linksysxxxxx-Guest-5G (for 5 GHz)
NOTE:  The xxxxx represents the last five digits of the modem router’s Serial number.
 
  • Default Guest Password is BeMyGuest
  • The Guest Wi-Fi network is disabled out of the box.  It will be enabled after the setup process is complete.
 
9.  Does the Guest network support Wireless Encryption?

No.  The Guest network supports a Captive Portal login, this will ensure that only your Guest clients with the Guest Password can connect to the internet with your Guest Wi-Fi network.  It is highly suggested to change the default Guest password you provide to your Guest clients.  To learn how to configure the Guest Access feature of the Linksys CG7500, click here.

WIRELESS CONNECTION & SECURITY
 
1.  How can I set up the Guest Access feature of the Linksys CG7500?
 
Guest Access is a way to share internet access.  Guests can get online, but they can’t see or access other connected devices on the main network.  To learn how to configure the Guest Access feature of your Linksys CG7500, click here.
 
2.  How many Guest clients can the Linksys CG7500 support?
 
The Linksys CG7500 allows up to 10 Guest clients to connect simultaneously.  They will have internet access but will NOT have access to your local network (i.e., shared storage devices or printer access).
 
3.  What is Parental Controls and how does it work?
 
Use Parental Controls to manage internet use by blocking internet access per device.  You also can block specific websites per device.  For an overview of this feature, click here.
 
4.  Is the Linksys CG7500 Dual-Band?
 
Yes, the Linksys CG7500 supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
 
5.  What is the maximum PHY data rate for each band?
 
The Linksys CG7500 has PHY data rates of up to 600 Mbps for the 2.4 GHz band and up to 1300 Mbps for the 5 GHz band.


ADVANCED CONFIGURATION
 
1.  Does the Linksys CG7500 allow VPN pass-through using IPSec, L2TP or PPTP protocols to pass through the router?
 
Yes.  The Linksys CG7500 allows VPN pass-through using IPSecL2TP or PPTP protocols to pass through the router.
 
2.  Does the Linksys CG7500 support SPI Firewall?
 
Yes.  The Linksys CG7500 supports SPI Firewall.
 
3.  What DDNS providers does the Linksys CG7500 support?
 
The Linksys CG7500 supports Dyn.com and No-IP providers.
 
4.  What is the UPnP feature of the modem router and how does it work?
 
UPnP stands for Universal Plug and Play.  This feature allows Wi-Fi connected devices to discover each other and automatically create working configurations.  Examples of UPnP-capable devices include web cameras, online gaming applications, and VoIP devices. 
 
NOTE:  By default, this feature is enabled on the Linksys CG7500.
 
5.  What is Single Port Forwarding?
 
Single Port Forwarding directs inbound traffic from the internet on a specific port to a single device on your network.  For example, forwarding inbound web requests, typically on port 80, to a web server.  To forward to multiple ports, create additional entries to forward additional ports to the same IP address.
 
6.  How do I configure Single Port Forwarding using the Linksys CG7500?
 
To configure Single Port Forwarding using the Linksys CG7500, follow the steps below:
 
Step 1: 
On a computer connected to the network, launch a browser and enter “http://192.168.1.1” in the Address bar and press [ENTER].
 
Step 2: 
Enter your modified administrator password.  If you did not create one, the default log in password is admin.
 
Step 3: 
On the page that opens, go to Configuration > Security.  
 
Step 4: 
Click on Single Port Forwarding then click on Add a New Single Port Forwarding
 
Step 5:
Enter an Application Name, External Port, Internal Port and Device IP Address.
 
NOTE:   Select a Protocol to use.  If you do not want to use port forwarding but want to keep the information in the table, uncheck the Status box.     

Step 6:
Click on the Apply button to save changes.
 
7.  How do I back up and restore my modem router’s settings?
 
To back up and restore your Linksys CG7500’s settings, follow the steps below:
 
Step 1: 
On a computer connected to the network, launch a browser and enter “http://192.168.1.1” in the Address bar and press [ENTER].
 
Step 2: 
Enter your modified administrator password.  If you did not create one, the default log in password is admin.
 
Step 3: 
On the page that opens, go to Configuration > Administration.
 
Step 4: 
Click Backup.
 
Step 5:
On the page that opens, click the Backup button and save the file on your computer.  To restore your modem router’s settings, click the Choose File button and select the backup file you saved on your computer then click Restore.
 
8.  Where can I change the Time Zone settings of my Linksys CG7500?
 
To change your modem router’s Time Zone, follow the steps below:
 
Step 1: 
On a computer connected to the network, launch a browser and enter “http://192.168.1.1” in the Address bar and press [ENTER].
 
Step 2: 
Enter your modified administrator password.  If you did not create one, the default log in password is admin.
 
Step 3: 
On the page that opens, go to Configuration > Administration.
 
Step 4: 
Click on the Time Zone sub-tab and select your preferred option on the drop-down menu.
 
NOTE:  If you want to enable the Automatically Adjust for Daylight Saving Time setting, click the checkbox beside Enabled.

Step 5: 
Click Save.
 
9.  What is Remote Management?
 
Remote Management lets you select a remote access protocol and a port to use when accessing your Linksys CG7500’s settings when you are away from home and not connected to its network.
 
10.  Does the Linksys CG7500 support Wireless MAC Filtering?
 
Yes, Wireless MAC Filtering is supported.  However, it is not a good substitute for a secure Wi-Fi password.   
 
NOTE:  If you enable MAC Filtering, the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) will be disabled automatically.

TROUBLESHOOTING
 
1.  How can I reset the Linksys CG7500 to factory defaults settings?
 
There are two ways to reset the Linksys CG7500 to factory defaults:
  • Hardware Reset – Press and hold the Reset button on the back panel of the Linksys CG7500 for about five seconds.
  • Software Reset – Log in to the Linksys CG7500’s web-based setup page.  Go to Configuration > Administration.  Under Device Reset, select Factory Reset.

2.  How do I upgrade the firmware of the Linksys CG7500?
 
Firmware updates for the Linksys CG7500 are provided by your ISP.  Click here for a list of Cable company contact information.  No firmware upgrades are provided by Linksys for this product.
 
3.  What is Media Server?
 
A Media Server lets you share media content across your network on an attached USB external storage drive.  You can share media with devices that are UPnP AV-enabled or DLNA®-certified within your home.  These include digital media players, gaming consoles with a built-in media player, and digital picture frames.
 
4.  How do I share a media folder using my Linksys CG7500?
 
To share a media folder using the Linksys CG7500, follow the steps below:
 
Step 1: 
On a computer connected to the network, launch a browser and enter “http://192.168.1.1” in the Address bar and press [ENTER].
 
Step 2: 
Enter your modified administrator password.  If you did not create one, the default log in password is admin.
 
Step 3: 
On the page that opens, go to Configuration > External Storage > Media Server
 
Step 4: 
Under Shared Media Folders, click on Add New Folder and select a folder that already exists in your drive and create a Share Name for it.  Click Apply then click Save once done.
 
NOTE:  If no folder exists in the drive, just create a Share Name and select what type of file content you want to detect from this share.  
 
5.  Can I connect my USB printer to the USB port of the Linksys CG7500 to share my printer?
 
No, the USB port ONLY supports external USB hard drives or USB flash drives.
