Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product with easy setup & excellent futures Load App, Plug it in, and its off and going. Really didn't expect this to have a signal so well to be able to replace older slower access point on each of our 3 floors, and at that its fast and stable. The Guest WiFi is great for friends and family while keeping our private network safe (and out of site). It has Parental Controls and you can even prioritize devices (like gaming PC's or consoles). It looks nice too, fits right into a room well and runs silent.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice Looking Router I received a single Velop MX5 AX5300 from Linksys in return for an honest review. Here are my findings: Pros: I like the design. It is aesthetically appealing and goes well with the family room décor. There is no array of blinking lights, just a single LED whose color indicates the status. Setup was fairly easy with no big surprises except that a smartphone or tablet is the preferred device for setup. There is a web interface available which I used after the initial setup. The device to router speeds along with better range are a welcome improvement over my old Wi-Fi router. Cons: There are a few things I like to do in terms of network management. I have about 30 home automation devices (plugs, light switches, personal assistants, etc.) which I prefer to be on a separate network. With my old router, I accomplished this by setting up a second guest network to segregate these devices and I specified this network to operate on the 2.4GHz band. The MX5 allows only a single guest network and one cannot specify what band(s) it is allowed to operate on. With the web based app, the Icon and Device Name can be changed for easy identification of devices on the non-guest network. However, neither one can be changed on the guest network. This makes identifying my 30 home automation devices nearly impossible when using the web interface. All you get are things like “Network Device” along with a generic Icon. Oddly, using the Android mobile app, the guest network Icon can be changed but still cannot change the device name. When the Icon is changed using the mobile app, the change appears in the web app. Go figure. A call to the Linksys customer service confirmed this functionality is correct!? There is no backup and restore function for the router settings. The mobile app for managing the router is a bit buggy in places but functions properly for the most part. Final Thoughts: I would like to see an option for a black colored one. This would fit my décor even better. On the first day of operation after I completed my setup, all of my home automation devices dropped offline within an hour. Rebooting the router brought them back online but they dropped offline again a little while later. I rebooted the router once again to bring them back online but within an hour, they all dropped offline again. At that point, I reverted back to my old router. My experience with devices dropping offline seem to be shared by many on the Linksys Community support page. I think I will wait for a few firmware update cycles along with some indication that the devices dropping offline problem has been fixed. At that point I will give it another try.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER - Misleading Advertising - Linksys Velop Mx5300 Intelligent Mesh Router IS NOT FULLY WIFI 6, 802.1ax IS ONLY FUNCTIONAL in Two of the Three Bands. When the devices join to the 5 Ghz 2nd band from Channels 149 to 161 that radio transmitter only provide 802.11ac. This means that the MX5300 is not a Real Fully capable WiFi 6 Router is just half WiFi 6. I have confirmation of this from Linksys. You receiving misleading advertising, because they are not showing clearly this on the technical specifications of the device. The question here is you will pay for a half WiFi 6 Router?? So far I have test most of all WiFi 6 mesh linksys Reuters including MR-7350, Mx-4200 and the only one with this Issue is the Mx5300 the most expensive router from the line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Router The Linksys MX5 Velop is the best router I have ever used. I plugged it in and followed the instructions and the router set itself up to all my connections. The Linksys MX5 is fast and reliable. Between myself and my family we have had over 20 devices going at once and this router handles all the internet connections without any problems. Also it is different looking as you do not have the antennaes. It is a heavey duty piece of needed equipment for me. I download movies, engineering drawing and various other types of files. The download speed is steady and fast. I would recommend this product to anyone that requires internet connection through their entire house.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FRUSTRATED!!!! MX5 arrived 11/22/19. Installed and since that time has had intermittent connection. Performed ALL trouble shooting and still issue. Called Linksys Support - call back took over an hour of waiting - only to be told they don't support the MX5 and was transferred. After being on hold 1 hour 38 minutes, hung up. What a waste of time!!!! Returning this piece of JUNK and going back to my old router that has MUCH better signal strength, coverage, and connectivity and doesn't cost and arm and a leg!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as good as advertised. Wi-Fi mode only Mixed Review for Linksys MX5 (MX5300 v1). Bought from Costco. Has latest firmware. I had Linksys 6-7 years ago and gave up on it due to weird User Interface, their numerious passwords for SmartWiFi web, for IP web login, for router login. They just can't make it simple: ONE login either IP web address or smartwifi. Then, if you want to have 3 separate SSID (2.4Ghz radio and two 5Ghz radios) - Good Luck to find those settings, though it exist. Thanks, to online forums where people shared how to find it. You have to login via web browser into Smart wifi or IP address account, then look tiny bottom line where some words printed, look last at right: CA. Click on it and it let you create 3 separate SSID if needed. But, you can't change Wi-Fi mode. It LOCKED (see pic) for all 3 radios to MIXED only. You won't be able to assign: N devices to 2.4 only, AX devices only to one 5ghz radio and rest to another 5ghz. It mixed and your speed will be lower if you assign just one radio to your either AC or AX devices. Had chat with Linksys Support he suggested to Reset it. But, no option to back so all over again. I went through Linksys forum and saw that firmware update removed this option. I was going to switch from TP-Link C4000 AC router, but won't and will return Linksys back to Costco. Linksys should learn from TP-Link how to make UI on their web interface or app. They have EVERY single option for you to adjust or change, very flexible. Or, they have option: Basic. In Linksys you have to dig and dig to find anything in the Setting, very poor design. They should hire a better team. Also, Linksys app for mobile (IOS) is so limited. Just very basic. If you have 3 SSID for radios, it shows only one for 2,4Ghz. Here is link to the Forum, you can read: https://community.linksys.com/t5/Velop-Whole-Home-Wi-Fi/MX5300-why-does-it-have-only-mixed-network-option-only/m-p/1432385#M24489

Rated 3 out of 5 by from AX won't work if Security to WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode! I bought 3 of this router and put it around my house on Feb, 2020. I updated to the latest Firmware as of Aug, 2020. I notices my new Dell Laptop which have an AX WiFi build in will never connected on the 802.11AX Protocol. It is always go to 802.11AC. I tried other laptops that have the AX wifi, same thing! I have set my Router in WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode for security because most of my devices in my house are still 802.11AC. I called Linksys support and spend hours! Only to find out in order for my Laptop's 802.11AX to work; I have to set one of the 5GHZ channel to WPA3 only. The router have (1) 2.4 GHZ channel and (2X) 5GHZ. So basically you need to set your first 5GHZ channel to WPA 3 only and set the second 5GHZ channel to WPA 2! You can't even reverse this, if you put WPA 2 on your first 5GHZ channel and put WPA 3 on the second channel it won't work! I hope they fix this bug! Because I just help a friend setup a cheap TPLink AX Router that sell for $200 in Amazon, and it worked right out of the box by setting the Security to WPA2/3 mixed mode! Why a router cost double the price can't do this?
