Resetting a Linksys WRT120N Wireless-N Home Router running on an old firmware

Advanced troubleshooting and configuration are usually done in the router’s web-based setup page.  However, if you encounter problems accessing the setup page or if the password entry is not working, you will need to reset it.

This article will guide you on how to reset the Linksys WRT120N Wireless-N Home Router properly.

NOTE:  This issue is common in the old firmware version and it is strongly advised to perform a firmware upgrade.  Before doing an upgrade, you will need to do the following:

You can get online but can't access the web-based setup page

Step 1:
On the Linksys Support Site, download the latest firmware and save it to your desired location.  For instructions, click here.

Step 2:
Press the router's Reset button for exactly 10 seconds.

NOTE:  All the lights will turn OFF except for the Power LED.
 


 

You will notice that the Power LED will start blinking and the rest of the lights will also be lit.

Step 3:
Wait until the Ethernet and Wireless links will be powered ON.  Make sure that the Power LED is solidly lit.

Step 4:
Access the web-based setup page of the router and update the firmware to the latest version.  For instructions, click here.

 

You are not online and can't access the web-based setup page

If you can’t connect to the Internet using the router, follow the steps below:

Step 1:
Powercycle the router then try to access the web-based setup page of the router again.  For instructions, click here.

Step 2:
Hold down the Reset button for exactly 10 seconds.

NOTE:  All the lights will turn OFF except for the Power LED.

You will notice that the Power LED will start to blink and the rest of the lights will come on.

Step 3:
Wait until the Ethernet and Wireless LEDs turn ON.   Make sure that the Power LED lights up solid.

You should now be able to access the web-based setup page of your router.

Step 4:
Update your router’s firmware to the latest version to avoid any connectivity issues.  For instructions, click here.
