Similar to routers, Linksys range extenders also have firmware updates that can fix some issues that you may encounter while using the device. The new firmware may provide enhancements to the functions of the range extender and may be able to refresh the device to prevent and resolve dropping or intermittent connection.
Before proceeding with the firmware upgrade, make sure that you have done the following:

Upgrading the range extender’s firmware
Click on your range extender’s model to learn how to update its firmware:
Linksys RE6700, RE6300 and RE6400
Linksys RE6500, RE3000W v2, or RE4100W
Linksys RE1000, RE2000, RE3000, RE3000W, or RE4000W
Step 2:
Click Choose File.
Step 3:
Select the firmware (.bin) file that you have downloaded earlier then click Open.
Step 4:
Click Start Upgrade.
Step 2:
Click the Browse… button.
Step 3:
Select the firmware (.bin) file that you have downloaded earlier then click Open.
Step 4:
Click Start Upgrade.
The progress of the upgrade process will be shown on the same page. To prevent any problems with the range extender, do not interrupt the upgrade process.
Step 5:
When the upgrade has been completed, click Continue when prompted.
Your range extender is now upgraded to the latest firmware version.

- Make sure that you download and save the file to the computer which you will use to update the range extender’s firmware.

Step 1:
Connect the range extender directly to the computer using an Ethernet cable. Make sure that the range extender is not connected to the router when performing the upgrade.
Step 2:
Access the range extender's web-based setup page by opening a web browser and enter “192.168.1.1” on the Address bar. This is the default IP address of the extender.
NOTE: If the range extender is already configured, you may either enter “http://extender.linksys.com” in the Address bar or check the router’s DHCP Client Table and look for the range extender’s IP address. To learn how to do this, click here.
Step 3:
A pop-up window will appear, asking for a User Name and a Password. Enter “admin” on both fields then click Log In.
