What is the Linksys E4200 v2?

The Linksys E4200 v2 Maximum Performance Dual-Band N Router lets you access the Internet via wired and wireless connection.  The features of the E4200 v2 include:

Maximum wireless speed - The Linksys E4200 v2 offers ultra fast speed to connect your tablets, computers, Internet-ready TVs, game consoles, and other Wi-Fi devices at transfer rates up to 450 + 450 Mbps speed for a premium home network experience.

On the top panel of the Linksys E4200 v2, the brand logo's LED indicates the following:  


Light behavior


 Power (White)

The light flashes slowly (every 3 seconds)

The router is powered ON, resets to factory defaults, or upgrades its firmware

The light is continuously lit

The router is ready for use

The light flashes quickly (every second)

There is an error

 Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (White)

Light flashes slowly (every 2 seconds) for two minutes

Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ process is active

The light is continuously lit

Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ is successful

The light flashes quickly (every second) for 2 minutes

There is an error

IMPORTANT:  In case the indicator light does not flash like any of the behavior stated above, you need to observe your connection first.  If the connection works fine, that unusual activity of the indicator light only pertains to an active network connection; however, if you start experiencing intermittent to no connection, you may need to powercycle your router for a minute or two.  If that does not fix the problem, you might need to update the firmware and reconfigure the settings of the router.  To learn how, click here.

 Ethernet 1-4 (Yellow and Green) – These Ethernet ports connect the router to computers and other Ethernet network devices on your wired network using Ethernet cables.  The yellow light flashes to indicate network activity over that port.  The green light turns ON when the local network port is connected to a 10/100/1000 Gigabit port.

 Internet (Yellow and Green) – Using an Ethernet cable, the Internet port connects the router to your Internet connection, which is typically a Cable or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) modem.  The yellow light flashes to indicate network activity over that port.  The green light turns ON when the Internet port is connected to a 10/100/1000 Gigabit port.

 Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ Button – If you have client devices, such as wireless printers, that support Wi-Fi Protected Setup™, you can press the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ button to automatically configure wireless security for your wireless network.  To know how to connect devices using the WPS feature, click here.

 USB Port – The USB port connects to a USB storage device.  The USB 1.1 standard supports speeds up to 12 Mbps.  The USB 2.0 standard supports speeds up to 480 Mbps.  The E4200 v2 recognizes USB 3.0 devices however it will force the device to run on 2.0 speeds.

QUICK TIP:  The E4200 v2 USB port supplies up to 1000 mA power on devices.  It also supports FAT32, NTFS, HFS+journaled and non-journaled capable for data storing formats.

 Reset – This button allows you to reset the router to its factory defaults.  Press and hold the Reset button for approximately 10 seconds.  This button is located between the USB and Power ports.  As an alternative, you can restore the defaults from the Administration tab > Factory Defaults sub-tab in the router’s web-based setup page.

 Power – The Power port connects to the included power adapter.
