How to configure port forwarding on the Linksys Gigabit VPN Routers, LRT214 and LRT224

Port forwarding can be used to set up public services on your network.  When users from the Internet make certain requests to your network, the router can forward those requests to computers that are equipped to handle the requests.  For example, you set the port number 80 (HTTP) to be forwarded to IP address 192.168.1.2, then all HTTP requests from outside users will be forwarded to 192.168.1.2.

Follow the instructions below on how to configure port forwarding on the Linksys Gigabit VPN Routers, LRT214 and LRT224.

Step 1:
Access the router's web-based setup page.  To learn how, click here.

Step 2:
Click the Configuration tab on the header.

Step 3:
Click Setup > Forwarding in the navigation tree on the left side.

Step 4:
Select the Service you want to use.

NOTE:  If the service you want to use is not on the list, you can add one from Service Management.  Fill in the necessary information and click Add to list.

Step 5:
Enter the LAN IP Address of the virtual host.

Step 6:
Check the Enable box and click Add to list.

This will now be added to the listed ports that will be forwarded by the Gigabit VPN Router.

Step 7:
Click  at the bottom of the page to finish the configuration.
