Checking or changing the basic wireless settings of the Linksys WRT3200ACM

Configuring the wireless settings of your Linksys WRT3200ACM Gigabit Wi-Fi Router is important to ensure that your wireless network is safe from unauthorized access and intrusions.  This article will guide you in checking or changing the wireless settings of your router.

Step 1:
Open a web browser.
 
Step 2:
In the Address bar, enter "http://linksyssmartwifi.com" to log in using your cloud account.  To login with your local account, enter “192.168.1.1” or “myrouter.local” then press [Enter].
 
QUICK TIP:  The default IP Address of the Linksys router is 192.168.1.1.  If you have modified it, use the new IP Address instead.
 
Step 3:
If you logged in using your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account, use your cloud password.  If you logged in using your router’s IP Address, enter your local admin password.
 
QUICK TIP:  The default local admin password is admin.  If you have changed it, use the new password instead.
 
Step 4:
On the left navigation pane, click Wireless under Router Settings.

Step 5:
Your network’s wireless settings will be displayed.  If you want to reconfigure the wireless settings, choose or enter your preferred settings and click Ok to save the changes.

For the 2.4 GHz network:
 
  • Network toggle switch - This allows you to disable/enable the 2.4 GHz radio.  By default, it is set to ON.
  • Network name - This is your wireless network name (SSID).  The default SSID is set to Linksysxxxxx, where xxxxx is the last five (5) digits of your Linksys WRT3200ACM’s serial number. 
  • Password - This is your wireless security password.  It is case-sensitive.
  • Broadcast SSID - This gives you the option to disable/enable the broadcast of your SSID.  When this option is disabled, Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) is not supported.  By default, this is set to Yes.
  • Channel - This allows you to select your preferred channel for the 2.4 GHz network.  The default setting is Auto which is the recommended setting.

  • Security mode - This allows you to select a wireless security method for all your wireless clients to connect.  The Security mode feature supports only None, WPA2 Personal (Default) and WPA2 Enterprise.

  • Network mode - This allows you to select the wireless standard that your network supports.  It is recommended to set the Network mode to Mixed.

  • Channel width - This allows you to select a channel width between Auto or 20 MHz Only.  The default is Auto.

For the 5 GHz network:
 
  • Network toggle switch - This allows you to disable/enable the 5 GHz radio.  By default, it is set to ON.
  • Network name - This is your wireless network name (SSID) for the 5 GHz band.  The default SSID is set to Linksysxxxxx, where xxxxx is the last five (5) digits of your Linksys WRT3200ACM’s serial number.   
  • Password - This is your wireless security password.  This is case-sensitive.
  • Broadcast SSID - This gives you the option to disable/enable the broadcast of your SSID.  When this option is disabled, Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) is not supported.  By default, this is set to Yes.
  • Channel - This allows you to select your preferred channel for the 5 GHz network.  The default setting is Auto which is the recommended setting.
NOTE:  The WRT3200ACM supports Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS).  If you select a channel and your device does not support DFS, the client will not detect the 5 GHz network.  DFS channels are 52-64 and 100-140.
  • Security mode - This allows you to select a wireless security method for all your wireless clients to connect.  The Security mode feature supports only None, WPA2 Personal (Default) and WPA2 Enterprise.
  • Network mode - This allows you to select the wireless standard that your network supports.  It is recommended to set the Network mode to Mixed.

NOTE:  The Linksys WRT3200ACM now supports 160 MHz Channel width.  In order to use the 160 MHz Channel width, you must set your Network mode to 802.11ac Only and use Channels 36-128 or Auto.  If the incorrect value is selected, a bubble reminder will appear telling you what options to choose instead.

NOTE:  If you have changed any of the wireless settings, you will see a You’re updating network settings window, just click Yes then Ok.
