Updating the driver of the Linksys WUSB6100M

Updating the driver of your Linksys wireless adapter to the latest version ensures optimum performance of your device.  There are instances when driver or installation fails.  This article will guide you on how to troubleshoot failed driver update via Windows update and manually installing driver due to a failed driver install.
 
Scenario:  You attempted to update your wireless adapter’s driver via Windows update and received an error message: Device driver software was not successfully installed.

Step 1:
When you see this message, click the Driver Software Installation icon.

Click the Change setting... button.

Step 3:
Select the Yes, do this automatically (recommended) option and click Save Changes.  Your computer will then check for Windows Update.
 
QUICK TIP:  Selecting this option requires an Internet connection on your computer.  You may connect your computer directly to your router via Ethernet cable, or if you have a built in wireless adapter, enable it and make sure it’s connected to your network.
 
If the computer can’t go online or does not detect the driver, then it is recommended to install the driver manually.

Step 4:
Once the driver installs successfully, connect your computer to your wireless network.
 
NOTE:  Alternatively, you can also go to Device Manager > right-click on USBWLAN under Other devices.

On the Other Devices section, click Update driver> select Search automatically for update driver software.

Manually installing the drivers
 
Step 1:
Download the latest driver of your wireless adapter from the
Linksys website.  Alternatively, you can use the Setup CD and locate your computer’s operating system for the driver.
 
Step 2:
Locate the driver you saved and unzip the file. 
 
Make sure to use the correct operating system.  If you are using the Setup CD, skip this step.
 
Step 3:
Access Device Manager.  For instructions, click
here. 
 
NOTE:  If there is a problem with the wireless adapter, it will appear as partially installed under Other devices with an exclamation mark.

Step 4:
Right-click the wireless adapter and select the Update driver software option.
 
Step 5:
Click Browse my computer for driver software.

Click the Browse button and locate the drivers you downloaded then, click Next.
           
NOTE:  If you are using the Setup CD, browse it and go to the Driver folder.  Make sure to select the folder according to your computer’s operating system and choose the folder x64 (for 64-bit operating systems) or x86 (for 32-bit operating systems).

Once the drivers are installed, the wireless adapter will appear under Network adapters.
