Setting up the Linksys X-Series Gateway using the web browser

This article will guide you on how to manually set up your Linksys X-Series Gateway. Some options in the router's web browser may vary.

Before you begin:

  • Internet Connection Type (Encapsulation)
  • VPI and VCI value
  • DSL Modulation
  • Multiplexing Type
  • Username and password
  • MTU type and size

1. Connect one end of an ethernet cable to your computer and the other end to an ethernet port at the back of the gateway.

2. On your computer, open a web browser and enter "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar, then press [Enter].

3. Enter “admin” in the username and password fields, then click OK. If you have a personalized username and password, use those instead.

4. On the Setup > Basic Setup page, go to the Internet Setup > Internet Connection Type section, and select RFC 2516 PPPoE.

The options may vary depending on your area and ISP. For Australia and New Zealand users, select RFC 2364 PPPoA.

If your ISP's connection type is not available in the drop-down, then this gateway will not work as a modem router and you can configure it as a router only.

5. Select VC for Multiplexing.

6. For Virtual Circuit, enter “0” for VPI and “35” for VCI. For Australia and New Zealand users, enter “0” for VPI and “100” for VCI.

7. Set the DSL Modulation to MultiMode. Then, enter your User Name and Password or use the one from your ISP.

8. Set the MTU to Auto or Manual. If your MTU is Manual, enter the MTU size provided by your ISP.

9. Click Save Settings

The Linksys X-Series Gateway is now set up. Allow the gateway to boot up normally, then check the internet connection once the status lights have stabilized.
