Getting to know the WUMC710

The Linksys WUMC710 is a single band Wireless-AC Wi-Fi 5GHz Universal Media Connector Bridge with 4-Port Switch capable of connecting Ethernet devices to a wireless network.  This media connector has Wireless-AC technology which is compatible with Wireless-N (5 GHz) and wireless-A routers or access points.

This article will give you an overview on the functions and features of the WUMC710.

LEDs Panel

QUICK TIP:  LED stands for Light-Emitting Diode.

sf49617-003_en_v2.png Wireless LED (Blue) - The Wireless LED lights up when a wireless connection is established.  The LED flashes when the media connector is actively sending or receiving data over the wireless network.

sf49617-004_en_v2.png Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) button - Press this button to activate the WPS feature of your device.

sf49617-005_en_v2.png Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ LED (Blue/Amber) - The WPS LED is located right under the WPS button.  Take note of the following activities for the WPS LED:

•   When the WPS LED flashes blue for approximately two (2) minutes, this means that the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ process is currently taking place.
•   If there is an error during the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ process, the LED lights up amber.

sf49617-006_en_v2.png Ethernet LED (Blue) - When a wired connection is detected, the Ethernet LED will light up.  This LED will continually flash if the device is sending and receiving data over the wireless network.

sf49617-007_en_v2.png Power LED (Blue) - The Power LED lights up when the media connector is powered ON.  During booting activity, system self-test, firmware upgrade or when hardware error occurs, the LED light would blink rapidly.

sf49617-009_en_v2.png Ethernet ports – The WUMC710 has four Ethernet ports that allow it to connect to computers or other Ethernet network devices.

  • Green LED
    OFF - No link or connection established
    ON -  Link established
  • Yellow LED
    OFF
    - No data activity
    Blinking - Sending or receiving data

Bottom Panel

sf49617-011_en_v2.png Reset button – The Reset button is at the bottom of the device.  There are two (2) ways to reset the device to its factory defaults – you can either press or hold the Reset button (using a pin) for five (5) seconds or restore to factory defaults in the media connector’s browser-based setup page.  To learn more about resetting your device, click here.

The features of the WUMC710 also include:

Firmware:

DHCP server device setup - Computers that are connected to the media connector via Ethernet can easily perform the setup process even before the media connector is connected to the router.  The device becomes a DHCP client.

IPv6 support - If the wireless router and the client device behind the media connector support IPv6, it would forward IPv6 traffic between the two devices.

Wireless Security – This media connector supports WEP, WPA-Personal and WPA2-Personal security.

Browser requirements:

To view the web-based setup page of the Linksys WUMC710, you need to use Internet Explorer 8 or higher, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox 8 or higher for Windows.  For Mac®, you need to use Safari® 5 or higher, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox 8 or higher.
